Former school principal gets probation for burning wife’s car
Amid issues of mental illness and the law, a Johnson County judge on Wednesday sentenced a former school principal to probation for burning his estranged wife’s car.

Johnson County jurors in June convicted Craig Butler, 37, of arson for the car and of misdemeanor property damage for damaging other property they owned.

They acquitted him of a more serious felony, aggravated burglary, for taking purses when he entered his wife’s Olathe home when she and her mother were there. He later mailed the purses back.

Butler admitted entering the home, taking the purses and burning the car in August 2008 but said he was mentally ill and hearing voices. Experts agreed at trial that he had been mentally ill but not enough to meet the extreme threshold for not guilty by reason of insanity.

4. What an embarrassment. Whatever will they do with him now?
He's not exactly going to be a leader that makes the school community comfortable and secure. :yoiks:
