Palin Tweets encouragement to Doctor N-Word: "Dr.Laura:don't retreat...reload!"

Sarah Palin has used Twitter to share some advice with Dr. Laura Schlessinger, the talk radio host who apologized and decided to retire from her highly-rated program after using the N-word on the air 11 times in 5 minutes.

Palin's advice: "don't retreat...reload!"

It's a breathtakingly tone-deaf bit of provocation -- even by Palin's standards.

Dr. Laura, as she's known on her radio program, quickly came under fire for her remarks of a week ago. She immediately acknowledged the mistake and soon announced that she would end the show once her contract expires later this year. She currently commands the largest audience of any woman in syndicated talk radio and overall her ratings are among the top five hosts in the nation.

Palin, once the governor of Alaska and Republican nominee for vice president in 2008, has been using social media sites like Facebook and Twitter to push her messages in recent months. She fired out two messages about Dr. Laura on Wednesday night, the first reading:

Dr.Laura:don't retreat...reload! (Steps aside bc her 1st Amend.rights ceased 2exist thx 2activists trying 2silence"isn't American,not fair")

That was quickly followed by:

Dr.Laura=even more powerful & effective w/out the shackles, so watch out Constitutional obstructionists. And b thankful 4 her voice,America!

(Screengrabs of the tweets are below.)

The response was immediate and furious.

Joan Walsh, writing on Salon, pointed out that Palin was tweeting about feminists just hours before "embracing the anti-feminist traditional-values preacher Dr. Laura." (Incidentally, Dr. Laura was never a big fan of Palin.) Walsh then went after the sentiment and historical context of Palin's latest comments:

It's scary to think we just had a vice presidential nominee who doesn't understand the Constitution, who thinks Schlessinger's First Amendment rights "ceased 2exist" because she was criticized for haranguing a black woman who called for advice, using the word "nigger" 11 times. Again, Gov. Palin, the First Amendment protects us from government infringing on our speech rights; it doesn't take away other Americans' right to criticize.

This isn't the first time a Palin tweet related to the First Amendment has generated controversy. Last month, she called on Muslims to "refudiate" Park 51's construction of Cordoba House, the so-called "Ground Zero Mosque."

That was followed by a series of tweets directed toward President Barack Obama, acknowledging that the Muslim group has the right to build ... "but should they?"

Palin acknowledged Park 51's rights. She acknowledged Dr. Laura's rights. She questioned Park 51's wisdom. So far, she hasn't questioned Dr. Laura's wisdom.

Dr. Laura's actions -- ending her show -- may have said more than Palin's words. And maybe even "refudiated" them.

7. It's amazing how the conservative idiots all agree on everything. Every time.
They all leap as one to defend horrible acts or attack decent people. Their unerring sense of The Wrong Thing allows them to land, all together, on the un-American, un-Christian, inhuman side of every issue. No exceptions! They're like lemmings, but without brains.

My disgust and distaste for conservatives grows with each passing day. These are the absolute worst people I have ever encountered in my life. And they are "Americans"! Oh, the shame.

11. Why does anyone care what this idiot woman Sarah Palin thinks?
She's not an elected representative of anyone. She holds no office. She didn't complete her first term as governor, she was a drop out, so why does anyone care?

The woman has done nothing except make herself a celebrity. Her "family values" are a joke, and she's basically a grifter taking advantage of people. :eyes:

15. Unfortunately, far too many ignorant Americans agree with her.
From Wikipedia:

Nude photos
In 1998, admittedly upset that he was snubbed by Schlessinger at an event, former radio mentor Bill Ballance sold nude photos of Schlessinger<25> to media outlet Internet Entertainment Group (IEG).<26> Schlessinger had posed for the photos while involved in a sexual relationship with Ballance in the 1970s. IEG, known for distributing a sex tape of Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee, purchased the photos and subsequently posted them on its website which were later leaked to the general public. Schlessinger initially denied that the photos were of her, but then claimed a copyright interest in them in court. Attempts to have the photos removed from various websites failed after a court ruling stated that IEG had legally acquired the rights to the material. She later admitted that the photos were authentic, addressed the issue on her show calling Ballance a "mentor and friend", and said she was "mystified as to why this 80-year-old man would do such a morally reprehensible thing." She claimed to have possessed "no moral authority" when the photos were taken, citing her age at the time of twenty-eight and a painful divorce as factors contributing to her voluntarily being photographed nude. She added that she had undergone "profound changes over the course of my life, from atheist to observant Jew." The incident brought to light accusations that Schlessinger had been unfaithful in her first marriage, caused the breakdown of her second husband's marriage, cohabitated with him while unmarried, and intentionally conceived a child with him out of wedlock. Schlessinger had railed against infidelity, cohabitation, and intentional single-parenthood on her show, but never addressed that these were part of her personal life experience...

This is the person that presents herself as a God fearing protector of conservative family values. A person that literally screwed her way into fame and fortune. The same kind of trash as Bill O'Reilly who would call up his young female intern and describe in revolting detail how he was shoving things up his fat ass and masturbating. The dumb ass didn't realize that he was being recorded and she sued O'Reilly and FOX and made herself well taken care of financially for life. O'Really and Faux settled out of court, but it was leaked that the settlement was in the tens of millions. You would think that all these God fearing people would have abandon them. Not so since they are the epitome of hypocrisy just like the people they support. Just racist trash. But, their fans sure have made them rich trash.

16. More on Laura from Wiki.
I believe that it is important that people know just what kind of people are the outspoken supporters of the conservative idiots in the nation. So here is some more about Laura the conservatives, homophobia dream for Wikipedia:

Second marriage and later family life
In the mid-1970s while working in the labs at USC, she met Lewis G. Bishop, a professor of neurophysiology who was married and the father of three children.<1> According to divorce filings, Schlessinger and Bishop began an affair. Bishop left his wife and moved in with Schlessinger. They lived together as an unmarried couple for approximately nine years, and Schlessinger tried to get pregnant after reversing an earlier tubal ligation and suffering an ectopic pregnancy. Bishop and Schlessinger married in early 1985 with Schlessinger announcing at the wedding that she was pregnant.<1> Schlessinger bore their only child, Deryk Schlessinger, in November 1985, when she was 38. Her son enrolled in Hillsdale College in the fall of 2002; he subsequently left college and joined the United States Army<42> under its 18X Special Forces contract program.<43> Deryk Schlessinger would subsequently wash out of the 18X program and was assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division. While deployed to Afghanistan, then-SPC. Schlessinger was investigated for offensive material on his MySpace page.<44> The U.S. Army's Army Knowledge Online website currently lists his rank as E-2, the second lowest rank in the U.S. Army.

Schlessinger was estranged from her sister for many years, and had not spoken to her mother for 18<45> to 20 years before her death in 2002.<46> Schelssinger's mother's body was found in her Beverly Hills condo approximately two months after she died from heart disease.<47><48> In 2006, Schlessinger wrote that she had been attacked in a "vulgar, inhumane manner by media types" because of the circumstances surrounding her mother's death, and that false allegations had been made that she was unfit to dispense advice based on family values. She explained that she had not mourned the deaths of either of her parents because she had no emotional bond to them. She described her father as "petty, insensitive, mean, thoughtless, demeaning and downright unloving". Her mother, she said, had "pathological pride", "was never grateful and would always find something to criticize," and "constantly expressed disdain for men, sex and love". She credited her father with being charming, with giving her the drive to succeed, and said her mother was beautiful as a young woman. She said her mother was the one who broke off their relationship.<49><46>

Religious beliefs
Schlessinger was non-religious until she and her son began practicing Conservative Judaism in 1996.<1> In 1998, Schlessinger, Bishop, and their son converted to Orthodox Judaism,<39> and began instruction under Rabbi Reuven P. Bulka of Ottawa, Ontario. During this time, Schlessinger sometimes used Jewish law and examples to resolve the moral dilemmas of her callers. She occasionally clarified ethical and moral issues with her local Orthodox Rabbi Moshe D. Bryski, before mentioning them on the air. She was embraced by many in the politically conservative segment of Orthodox Judaism for bringing more awareness of Orthodoxy to her radio show. Some of her expressed views were explicitly religious, and are referenced her 1999 book The Ten Commandments: The Significance of God's Laws in Everyday Life. Although her other books have stressed the importance of morality, they are more secular in nature.

In July 2003, Schlessinger announced on her show that she was no longer an Orthodox Jew.<50> In a series of monologues following that announcement, she explained that she did not feel a connection with God, and felt frustrated by the effort she had put into following the religion. Her religious approach on the show lessened substantially after this announcement. In December 2006, she stated that she was outraged that a Rabbi was demanding that a menorah be put in the Seattle International airport adjacent to a Christian holiday display, and that she would be putting a Christmas tree up in her own house.<51>

I am convinced that the majority of the conservative spokespeople are certifiably bat-shit crazy and the audience little more than morons.

31. Olegramps, I agree with you 100% and THANKS for providing all the proof
we would ever need. This woman, Laura, is a sicko. She's gullible and impulsive as well. Few people in the world are as combattive as she is. Her son sounds like he didn't fall far from the tree.

This business with using Orthodox Judaism in her books and talks and radio show and then renouncing the religion and then further going on the attack against equal religious expression, that's very damning, in my book. It reveals a snide and vindictive evil side to this woman.

20. I don't see how her rights were violated in any way
She was working for a privately owned company, and left of her own accord. Had the company wanted to, they would have been well within their rights to fire her, as on private property (ie, company time), they can decide how much 'first amendment' practicing you can do.
I think people have a real problem distinguishing between the constitutionally protected speech of a truly public forum, and the rights of 'property owners' or 'business owners' in restricting what they allow their employees to say while on company time. I would think that this whole ability of business owners to restrict their employees' freedom of speech would be an ideal that republicans and tea partiers would uphold as some kind of ideal that everyone should go for, especially when they privatize the entire federal government.

she basically just reinforced her existing viewpoint (that it's not racism, but non-white people complaining about racism, that's the problem)?

I would think she'd be proud of herself for attacking a black caller and blaming her for the racism she experienced.

Was she under pressure from advertisers?

29. "Congress shall make no law"
Both of these idiots (Schlessinger and Palin) do not have even a basic understanding of the first amendment.
The Congress did not make law which "silenced" the "doctor".

It is free market capitalism at work, not censorship.

Schlessingers sponsors feel that association with her is a negative to their image and may impact their profits.

There is no first amendment right to a radio show.

Schlessinger is perfectly free to continue her bigotry.
She will now have a more difficult time finding private business to underwrite it.
