This 'mosque' business has not been handled well
In national politics, and probably in most facets of life, it is important to remember that not everyone is on the same page.

When we have an argument a good percentage of participants will not know what the argument is about.

You just cannot state the obvious enough with some folks.

"The American Society for Muslim Advancement and the Cordoba initiative were not connected to the attacks of 9/11 in any way."

Should that have been in the president's original statement on this?

Yes. As silly, vaguely insulting and unnecessary as it seems, it should have been in the original statement placed such that it would be part of the key sound-byte.

1. Stupid people are stupid. And frankly, it is reflective bigotry.
Most people knew deep down during WWII that the Japanese in the US were not all on the side of Nazi Germany and yet many people wanted them in camps anyway. My own Grandparents had reflective racism toward the Japanese. This is what this is and no amount of soundbites will change it. Only time will. 50 years from now, we will look back as ashamed of ourselves as we do now when we look back and see what we did to the Japanese.

2. No Shit! it stinks of triangulation and made O look weak to both those pro and against civil rights
Just as several other moves have made O look bad to people on both sides of the issue:

Healthcare- the pukes are scared of "socialist Obamacare", the Progressives hate the insurance co bailout.
DOMA- he said he's against it, but hasnt done anything except make both sides angry.
DADT- ???? a survey, but gays still in the closet or out of a job???

and on and on

I wish he would pick a side and stop straddling the fence

3. The bad guys own the media.
And so they control the debate.

Until that changes, expect more propaganda response efforts to be handled badly.

4. When the national dialog is controlled by Sarah Palin's tweets
Edited on Thu Aug-19-10 09:31 AM by lunatica
There will be 95% stupidity in the mix because the arguments are based on pure emotional idiocy from the beginning. Sarah Palin doesn't think. She emotes from the lowest gut levels.
