So, I realize this is slightly under a month old, but I just saw this for the first time and felt like sharing it. Apparently Michal Regan got tired of supporting the liberal agenda by using those gosh darn hippie .yahoo and .aol email addresses and wanted to protect his fellow god fearing Americans from having to be subjected to our crazy free email world domination scheme, and opened email addresses with @regan.com to the conservative public to the tune of $40 a year. He's actually gone on Fox news and advertised, and also promises a DVD copy of his father's Tear Down This Wall speech, which is available for free on Youtube (but hey, it's a liberal website, pay him $40 instead.)

I don't know what political affiliations 1and1 has but anyone trying to sell you email service for $40 when they are hosted on a package that gives them unlimited email and costs them 4 bucks a month is ripping you off. But I'm all for these idiots being ripped off.

4. That depends, there are valid reasons to pay for email. But this is a huge rip off

one of the main valid reasons I can think of is Exchange email hosting which is used a lot in the corporate world.
