Yeah, I know the Democrats are wimps and many of them are outright slime. But don't be too quick to dismiss the "lesser of two evils" argument.

We are where we are today because of the Republican Party. Imagine if they had more than the power to just say "No." They already control the message because of Fox "news" and hate radio. Imagine them in control of one or both houses of congress where the damage they can do is unlimited.

The crimes committed by Cheney/Bush and their thugs are countless and something no one could have imagined back in 1999. Yet, as bad as their reign of power was, the GOP has gone completely insane since Obama's election. And if they control the congress, it would just be a matter of time before they tried to impeach Obama for jaywalking.

Do you really want to see any more power in the hands of people like Sharron Angle, Rand Paul, and the herd of other crazies currently running for office? Not to mention that the next governor of each state will be responsible for redistricting and guess which districts will get wiped out.

So sit out the election if you're that pissed at the Democrats. But don't complain about the results.

1. And the DLC
"We are where we are today because of the Republican Party."

The GOP didn't sign NAFTA, or deregulate banking, or pass DADT. The GOP didn't sign DOMA. The GOP are scum, but the DLC has aided and abetted them all the way along, including dumping the public option.

3. Yes, the DLC sucks. So let's turn the country over to the Republicans?

5. That's what I don't get either
My mom used to call such thinking "cutting off your nose to spite your face."

6. Every single race
You made a sweeping assessment about every single race in the country based upon a lesser of two evils basis. All I point out is some of them aren't "lesser". Some of them actually "enable".

4. Don't bother-- they have their "principles"...
and can't imagine seeing someone in office who doesn't believe, speak, and act exactly as they do. Let the country go back in the hands of the Republicans-- if it makes a difference at all it will teach someone a lesson.

Me, I don't like some of my choices this November-- Schumer is a blowhard who causes as much trouble around here as he fixes and Cuomo is NOT his father, having a mean streak and few friends.

But, I'm gonna vote for them because them's the breaks. Neither is bad enough to be afraid of, and either is better than the alternative.

And, yes, I am disappointed with this administration for a number of reasons, but, again, not disappointed enough to want them gone. I've been disappointed with every administration since Kennedy. I probably would have been disappointed with Truman and Eisenhower if I remembered them better.

Two steps forward and one backward, and that maybe only half the time-- I can't get all I want because more than half the country wants something different.

7. they told us we had to win the WH in 08, so we'd save the Supreme Court
so, we win and we get Sotomayor and Kagan, because they are scared to put a liberal up for confirmation after pukes got through Alito and Roberts???

they also said we needed to take the Senate so we can push through legislation. the next day we are told about the "magic number" needed of 60 in order to get anything done....

screw it, let the Palin-ites have control, trigger their revolution, and we can start again from scratch after a great blood-letting.

11. The real congress is the corporate oligarchy
Nearly all of them cater to the corporations. Our own military force is being used to protect them. We're already in deep trouble. Lots of people are suffering/struggling ... no jobs, no or high health insurance costs, etc.

12. The majority of the people who encourage sitting out the election...
Edited on Thu Aug-19-10 04:29 PM by gulliver
...around here are probably Republicans pretending to be disappointed ultra-liberals. I can understand not being happy with where things are, but the fault belongs squarely with the Republicans. Rewarding Republican leaders like Mitch McConnell or Sarah Palin in any way is being as bad as they are. People who sit out elections and let Republicans have power share in the guilt for every single thing the Republicans do with that power.

There are few actual liberals that ethically challenged. The ones who foster Republican power around here are mostly Republicans.
