Right Wing Witch Hunt

I'm just wondering. A lot of hate fanatics are against the Muslim community center that will have a swimming pool, workout area, library and a top floor which will be used to pray. Are its opponents afraid of Muslim prayers or against it because it will be a place where Muslims pray at scheduled times? If they are against it because Muslims will use it for praying will they also take steps to ban Muslim prayers at other locations, like at Ground Zero?

People from all walks of life died on 9/11, including Muslims. But given the irrational, unconstitutional frenzy people are caught up in it seems they would even be opposed to a Muslim who lost a loved one on 9/11 to even say a prayer for them.

How much more hate can the right wing produce before it implodes on itself? Don't they realize their hatred creates more hatred (and more enemies) of the United States from Muslims around the world? Right wingers obviously don't even understand how their two wars, torture, Gitmo and their constant condemnation of all Muslims is playing right into the hands of evil thugs like Osama Bin Ladin and creating more terrorists.

Edit for punctuation error...

2. I had an argument at DKos once upon a time...
With a woman who was disgusted at a Muslim woman washing her feet in a sink at the local college... something they are required to do before daily prayers five times a day. This woman went on and on... an alleged progressive and liberal, mind you.

I asked her how many times a day she washed her hands... and suggested that Muslims must have the best smelling shoes of anyone on Earth!

She blew up at me like you cannot believe! I only spoke the truth!

The hate is all around us. Even here on DU. It sickens me.

12. That's my biggest fear right now...
These hatemongers are whipping their audience to an evil, hateful froth! Steph Miller read an email on the air this morning that literally made me cry. The hateful writer suggested that Muslims would make good fish bait, among other horrid things.

The level of hate and violence is on the rise, and the empowerment of the bigoted and racist is getting out of hand.

I'm not sure what can be done at this point... I'll not give up hope that things can change.

I saw Joan Baez perform twice last week... I'm in a very peaceful mood right now, except when I get all emotional over the hate and anger I see daily. I keep thinking of Joanie marching with MLK... and the risks she took... and I wonder, how many of us would take it to that extreme? And where would we be right now if people like Joanie and MLK hadn't marched for civil rights in the 60's?

This is very much a civil rights issue. This is very much an issue of freedom for us all.

There is no asterisk after "Thou shalt not kill."

7. People brush their teeth in sinks.
Mouths are filthy. Did she have a problem with that?

Lots of idiots on DKos lately.

13. She used that as an example!
She said she didn't want to brush her teeth at a sink where feet had been washed. Wish I had thought of the filth in the human mouth! Good point. I was so angry at the time all I could say was I would rather be fed by the toes of a Muslim than by her filthy hands!

Kos and HuffPo are both on my "do not read" list. Only when linked here do I venture over... and only sometimes at that... depending on the author and the subject. Just not worth my blood pressure.

6. I said last week that I saw a show about muslims visiting ground zero in the months after 9/11. It
was a Tv show where they got people dressed in muslim garb to walk around the site to see what the reaction of other Americans would be. It was amazing. People kept going up to them and saying "are you okay? Are people treating you okay?". I cried and cried at the time.

I'm so sorry this issue has turned into mess it has.

9. Yes. Absolutely. Please pray individually to your gawd, whoever that is!
I am against organized religions making proclamations about their "peacefulness" and hopes to "heal" divisiveness with more multi-million dollar structures devoted to their gawds. Use the money to help the poor, or help the dying folks in Pakistan or whatever instead of building yet another temple to their sky daddy and his incipient prophet du jour.

There are already 31 mosques in NYC. And too many synagogues, churches, temples and every other religious institution on the face of the planet devoted to their own brand of divisiveness and exclusion. Why can't the area be secular? Devoted to a kind of multiculturalism that transcends religion altogether? Most YMCAs don't include a church for example. Why can't the Islamic center simply be a neutral space for gatherings instead of a center devoted to Muslim ideals (of separate gym spaces, and segregated pool times, and women as second class citizens - not able to be imams or leaders in their religion etc. etc.)?

Hell, more porn shops!

10. In my town there seems to be more churches than people.
On Sundays, their parking lots only have a few cars in them. I wish they wouldn't build any new churches until they can fill the ones they have. Why should people tithe just to build gaudy, expensive buildings that have nothing to do with spirituality? Do people need to be surrounded by expensive statues and expensive stained glass windows in order to be in touch with their gods? If they do it sounds like they are worshipping the golden calf and that is condemned in the very bibles they claim to read.

And why are there tens of thousands of different Christian denominations with no two of them agreeing with all the contents of their bibles? If 'god' is all knowing and perfect how could he have written such a flawed, contradictory and inconsistent book? If simplicity is genius the 'god' who had the bible written is an absolute idiot.

11. I dont think that
Right wingers much care. They seem to have an "us" against "them" mentality. That seems to includes more then just Muslims...They are already at war with anyone who is not like them.
