I think one problem we have convincing people of global climate change
is a combination of dire warnings and disaster movies. For example, people look around for cities drowned beneath the sea. When they don't see any, they declare that Global Climate Change is a malicious myth. They don't recognize that the unprecedented flooding in areas as diverse as Tennessee, Pakistan and China may be the beginning of a trend. We're like the frog in the pot set on the stove. Things are changing so gradually that we'll be cooked before we know it.

1. nah everyone is already convinced, that's actually the real problem
be honest, do you know anyone sane who isn't already convinced of global climate change?

nope, neither do i

you don't have to convince anyone this time of century, people can see what's happening, the trouble is, no one is mobilizing folks or giving them anything useful to do

we are not shutting down coal plants, we are actually starting up new ones -- and people are allowing this, while wanting a moratorium on oil (there are relative degrees of suck and coal is far worse than oil on the environment, as a quick trip thru the industrial rev should have taught people)

people are being distracted by the loud shiny object, they know there's a problem but they're told to buy a new kind of light bulb (sorry, al gore but that's really lame) and to bring their own shopping bags

consumers are not the ones eating the planet, industry is...if we are going to take action it's going to have to be a different kind of action

but no one's willing to do that

2. The fundamental problen is that six billion people is about five billion people too many.
And until we're willing to address *THAT* problem,
the planet is screwed.

3. Over-population ! There are just too many people in the world for the
world to be able to handle the people. Something has to give and the world is breaking loose. Hold on to your seatbets, folks.
