Muslim = the new communist

If you've been keeping up with current events, this is very apparent. Back in the 1950's, if you wanted to completely slander and or destroy someone's reputation, you'd just label them communist. FF to 2010 and the new label is muslim. We have a candidate for state senate here that is accusing the candidate he's running against of being muslim. The candidate did a community service project years ago at an Islamic center. The guy is a devout catholic who goes to mass every Sunday according to his priest, so the label is not going to stick. Has anyone else seen or heard of people throwing the muslim label around at others?
