Yo Skinner: extend the fund drive.
I can't donate because I'm moving in 11 days, and had to empty the piggy bank to pay first month/last month/security deposit for my new apartment. That and money is generally tight these days is forcing me to keep my checkbook in my pocket.

It's the 20th, and lots of folks (myself included) are not going to see another paycheck until the 1st of September.

As soon as I can, I'm going to donate. I think a lot of people here are feeling the same way.

Let it ride. We will catch up. This place means too much to us to let this slide.

Keep your chin up, Skinner. It isn't all hate and divisiveness here, not by a long chalk.

:toast:  :toast:

13. Maybe unrec is part of the problem?
And the response it creates in those who post. We can't do away with posting, but I'd happy to see unrec go just because of the sheer divisiveness and ill-feeling it's abuse causes.

You're People's Exhibit #1, Mr. Pitt. Let it go, and have a beer.

Yes, it sucks. Some people love to ding threads by unreccing them without contributing anything meaningful.

I might rec your post but someone will unrec the same thread and take my vote away. My suggestion: only allow the unrec feature for those who have entered +1 first. DailyKos uses that system. It seems to work well.

Many people come onto a thread just to complain that someone unrecced. Sometimes the first comment is to complain about unrecs.

Edited on Sat Aug-21-10 11:48 AM by kentuck
It is not working as it was planned. Anonymous trolls can now come on make their comment (unrec) without having to expose themselves to a possible pizza party.

It would also be a morale booster for DU, imo.

65. Hear! Hear!
I'll repeat what I said in #33. This feature allows people to take someone else's vote from them with no account as to why. It's an unreliable gauge of a thread's worth.

52. I HATE paypal
It is, from what I understand, an arm of eBay and therefore has ties to Meg Whitman.
Plus they continually ask for updated account information, which I find unnerving.
It is getting difficult to distinguish between their requests and spam from the
Russian internet mafia. When in doubt, delete. I did.

Plus, I also understand it takes a healthy chunk out of what reaches the intended recipient.
Mastercard just takes 3% or so.

To hell with it. I'll spend the money for a stamp and send a check. It takes longer, but DU
gets 100% of the amount of the check. Sounds like a plan to me.

56. I hate paypal too
It's not easy for me to donate because I've been out of work nearly 2 years, and don't qualify for unemployment. I write checks and mail them to DU when I can.

DU was a lifeline for me during the 8-year nightmare of Dr. Evil and Mini-Bush, and that is why I donate.

At the moment, most of DU is a source of sadness and frustration to me, instead of a lifeline.

I don't like being trashed by people who jump to the defense of the Obama Administration, when all I ask is that the President and Democratic Party start directly addressing the unemployment crisis and pushing serious job creation programs. I fear that not tackling the jobs issue will cost us seats in the fall elections.

Edited on Sat Aug-21-10 08:42 AM by dsc
I get 10 pay checks a year, at the end of Aug, Sept, Oct, Nov, Dec, Jan, Feb, Mar, Apr, May so I go from 31 May to 31 Aug with no pay check. So this hits me at my lowest money point of a given year. Even if this drive isn't extended I would advise moving the drive to the beginning of Sept.

My donor status went on the 17th.

I'm moving and have to do security dep + rent on new place as well as another month on the old place. Then I had 800 bucks worth of car repair.

Sucks!

So, I gotta wait til payday or the next one to donate.
