the victim or eye witness has turned out to be unreliable for some reason. I would like to find out what happened here at any rate.

BEFORE going public. I don't see how sitting on the charges for a few hours while making that determination would have made a difference. Nevertheless, I think everyone here would like to find out what happened and a lot of us can only speculate at this point.
