WikiLeaks Founder Julian Assange 'Wanted for Rape'! Arrest warrant issued. A CIA Operation?
WikiLeaks Founder 'Wanted for Rape'
Julian Assange warns of "dirty tricks" campaign against him
by Al Jazeera
August 21, 2010

Swedish authorities have issued an arrest warrant for Julian Assange, the founder of the whistleblowing website Wikileaks, after received a sexual assault complaint against him.

Assange denied the allegationson Saturday, saying via Twitter that the charges "are without basis and their issue at this moment is deeply disturbing".

The prosecutor's office in Stockholm said the arrest warrant was issued for the 39-year-old Australian national late on Friday.

"We can confirm that he's wanted. He was charged last night - the allegation is suspected rape," Karin Rosander, director of communications at the National Prosecutor's office, said

"One is rape and one is molestation," she said, without giving details.

After Swedish tabloid Expressen, first published reports that an arrest warrant had been issued for Assange, Wikileaks responded on Twittersaying: "We were warned to expect 'dirty tricks.' Now we have the first one."

"No one here has been contacted by Swedish police. Needless to say this will prove hugely distracting."

Al Jazeera's Paul Brennan, in London, said: "The two alleged victims in this are in their twenties.

"One is supposed to have happened last weekend in Stockholm and another last Tuesday in Sweden but in a separate town."

Assange was in Sweden last week partly to apply for a publishing certificate to maintain the advantages it receives from the country's whistle-blowing protection laws. Wikileaks also has many of its servers in Sweden.

Sounds like a set-up to me. He might have dated or socialized with two women who were paid to approach Assange and later claimed they were raped. That's how the CIA operates. BBI

4. Better conspiracy theory: Assange started the fake charges himself to make the CIA look bad.
It's a better conspiracy cause it's got more levels.

5. The CIA looks pretty bad without any "help" from Assange

Do you think the right-wingnuts might raise the idea that Assange "started the fake charges"?

:eyes: Do you ever think about what you post before you type it or does it all just ooze out with no consideration?

On edit: the answer is obvious. You could not even be bothered to spell check your own name.

8. All someone has to do...
.. is get a swedish citizen to make an allegation. Even the CIA could probably pull that off, making it actually work, well the CIA isn't so good at that.

COINTELPRO =/= all conspiracy theories are therefore real.

23. Inorite?
I mean, if the CIA was involved, you'd think they'd plsn something better, right?

Of course the counterargument is always, "well yeah, that just proves how incompetent the CIA really is."

It's kind of like the people who go on and on about how stupid Bush was yet he orchestrated this giant masterful plot to destroy the WTC.

30. I'm not sure the CIA was involved, just that it's possible.
There's ground between your first two points...

you'd think they'd plsn something better, right?

and

"well yeah, that just proves how incompetent the CIA really is."

I know shades of gray are toxic to your way of thinking in all matters, but give it a shot someday. It's an interesting world out there.

18. No, your's is way more woo woo.
While the OP may not be true, the CIA does indeed have a history of dirty tricks, which at least puts the OP in the "possible" territory.

Any ideas on how these charges originated against someone that has the Intel community on his ass? Do you think he actually did this? If not, why would someone go after him now?

Satire, yo.

"the CIA does indeed have a history of dirty tricks"

Because the hacker who leaked classified documents and is a fugitive from justice is real honest hard working man.

25. He's a fugitive from justice that you admire and respect.
Whistleblowing can be justified if the whistleblower actually uncovers some larger crime than he/she committed in the process of whistleblowing.

Tell me, what big crime as Assange uncovered?

It'd assume the Department of Justice is the one that wants to bring him to trial, and the State Department maybe involved in any sort of extradition.

And then maybe the secret government, NOAA, is warming up the earthquake machine just in case.

More shades of gray for you. Don't ponder this too long or your brain will cramp up as it reflexively tries to revert back to simple black and white.

And I got that it was satire, it was just bad satire.

33. The truth?
It's not the "truth" your claiming, it's just something you made up.

Even upthread you admit "oh yeah, it's just a possibility.

"And I got that it was satire, it was just bad satire."

It made the stuck pigs squeal. That's at least adequate satire.

"the truth" I mentioned was in regards to the information that was released, not in regards to the OP.

It made the stuck pigs squeal.

And my posts keep luring you back. What was that about stuck pigs squealing again, Porky?

Kudos to the authorities who got on top of this. In America it would have been drug out for weeks and the findings that it was bogus would have been buried on page 48 of the NYT on a busy news day.
