Yea, so what's up, jaxx? I heard a couple days ago that Chadmiral was saying there may be a problem with his annulus. Any details on that we should know?

4. LOL they are changing a few things down yonder.
Just watched a big long fish or eel march across the bottom....life is down there still. Anyway, things are going to get interesting again before they kill the well for keeps. That BOP change out will take time and we should be able to watch.

I figure we watched all along and can see it to the end. :hi:

2. Hello ROVers.
I'm opening this back up because they are working at the capping stack and will down the road take off the old BOP and replace it with a new one.

This pic is "Assisting at the Capping Stack' and I took it just a few mins ago. According to the Oil Drum:
Current status via #theoildrum IRC:

- The 48h ambient pressure test was finished successfully - no oil/gas flow was observed.
- The lower ram of the capping stack has been opened
- A pipe from the Discoverer Enterprise has been put into the stacking cap, either to flush it out and/or with a camera to detect the "fish", i.e. the broken drill pipe, within the bop.

A report of how fishing for a broken pipe worked in a different case is: Fishing in the subsea BOP: DP has its limits. A disconnect was required that resulted in a small fish and a unique way to solve the problem ( http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m3159/is_7_227/ai_n16689918/ ).

6. Today's update:
Subsea operational update:

BP has been authorized to begin open water fishing operations from the MC252 BOP. The fishing operations will aim at removing drill pipe within the MC252 BOP. Operations commenced this morning.

As directed by the NIC, the DDII is preparing its BOP for further use on the Macondo well. In doing so, the storm packer has been set and it has unlatched its BOP from the second relief well site.

The DDIII is on standby but maintaining full readiness to proceed when directed.

We anticipate the next update will be provided by around 10am CDT on August 22, 2010.

9. ROVs are removing all the stuff they hung on the BOP
before the new stack was put on top of it. Must mean the tests are done and the BOP will be removed pretty soon. The drill pipe was pulled out.

There are 13 ROV feeds active right now...more than we've seen for a long time. One of them broke his hand......

This is the well head with the old BOP still sitting on it....we don't see it much anymore. Now it's a prime piece with them getting ready to remove the BOP.

18. Nope. The fellas at TOD say
At about 6 am CDT the camera was/is back in the capping stack but appears to be looking at a half closed RAM just a few feet within the capping stack: (pic like above).

The black half-round part in the center is downhole, the piece in the left half of the picture appears to be one of the two parts of a blind shear RAM.

The RAM should be opened but one half appears to have malfunctioned.

20. Mornin NYC_SKP
Just ran across this pic that gives some perspective as to just how big that new capping stack is when seen with a ROV working on it.....

Word is that the capping stack didn't go 100% correct in the shut down and static kill either and that BOP's are 45-50% failure rate. Not very conducive to success, but then they also say the usuage and upkeep is a part of that....batteries in control devices etc.

Anyway the ROVs continue to unload the old BOP and work at the capping stack, flush out the drill pipe for the fishpipe.

21. Hiya, Jaxx!
No room for error with this technology.

I'd say the industry has been damned lucky given the thousands of operations that are ongoing and the tens or hundreds of thousands of operations over the past, and that's just in the GOM.

Have you seen those graphics I've posted of the bore holes and pipelines?

Old journal entry: http://journals.democraticunderground.com/NYC_SKP/14

The GoM looks like a pincushion with all those wells drilled into it. No wonder there are seeps all the time.

Sounds like they got all 3 rams on the capping stack open and are going fishing again today. The BOP from the second RW is off and ready to go when the old one is removed. Selfishly I want them to wait till the weekend so I can watch. :dilemma:

23. They've given up fishing.........
from http://twitter.com/BP_America - Allen's briefing earlier today (Fri., Aug. 27)

# We've decided to end fishing operations and it was recommended that we go ahead with the removal of the BOP. - Adm. Allen 1 minute ago via web

# Starting today and through the weekend, we will make preparations to remove the BOP and replace it. - Adm. Allen half a minute ago via web

# BOP removal should occur around Wed, if all conditions are met. Weather or other factors could cause schedule to change. - Adm. Allen

# Ambient pressure tests and perfomance of the well thus far indicate there should not be any problems. - Adm. Allen <<<

Sooooooo the pipe was stuck in hydrates and now they will try to pull off the BOP and it's long pipe....this is like the weekly serial at the old Bijou Theater.

Stay tuned...... :eyes:

The saw is used to cut off things sticking out...and they just get in there and hack till it's gone.

We are to the phase called BOP Slng Connection. It's moving along, and it would seem hooking it up will come next with unlatching it from the well head. They say there are skimmers on the sea near by in case of a leak. The BOA Sub Sea ROV2 seems to be the one in the lead and the best feed to watch right now.

The empty connector at the end of the Q4000 drill string is currently visible via Q4000 ROV2 at http://mfile.akamai.com/97892/live/reflector:35523.asx , waiting to be lowered onto the spool once the Q4000 has moved into position above the well.

45. The End.
This watching of the ROVs started on May 31, 2010 when they were getting ready to put the first cap on....the one that gushed until July 15 when the new cap and stack finally stopped the flow. We watched the diamond saw get stuck and the giant shear snap the drill pipe.

It has evolved on with all the events, the watching, the comments, the images, until the end when tonight they brought the old BOP up onto the Q4000, to be taken away as evidence and examined to find what caused the blowout on April 20, 2010....the beginning of the odyssey.

I leave you with this pic of the BOP being lowered onto the platform:

The best to you all. :hi:
