Poll question: Should everyone try getting high?
Adults, of course.

Is getting high an absolute necessity?

Are people who don't get high negligent in not taking care of their "high" deficiency?

Oh yeah, and if you have advice about the best way and/or the worst way to get high, please advise.

1. I think to know what it means to be 'high' isn't a bad thing. You'd
have a point of reference. Not necessity, and if you try it, you might like it, dammit! x(

2. Of course everyone should try getting high.
Everyone should try reading a book.

Everyone should try watching a movie or seeing a play.

Everyone should try foreign cuisine.

Everyone should try getting high.

It's a sad, pathetic little person who doesn't.

If that's your thing, I don't have a moral issue with it...but I don't think that drug use (including alcohol and tobacco) is a "must do" thing.

I don't need to get high. If that's your thing, fine, but it certainly doesn't have to be my thing - even once.

It's like someone who's never tried broccoli saying they hate it and nobody else should eat it either.

Properly cooked, it's delicious.

But still, some people might not like it.

I don't personally care for pot, but that doesn't mean I'd begrudge someone else using it. If it makes 'em happy, go for it.

being form calif in the 70's and early 80"s, i could not fathom it.

the older i am, as i reflected on my usage time and not just with pot, i have decided that if a person choses to never experience what i did, big thumbs up to them. they aren't missing out.

this revelation surprises me.

Not everybody needs to use drugs, legal or illegal, to achieve that state, and those that do should proceed with some common sense.

Best ways to get high?

Endorphins released by physical activity or meditation.

38. everyone needs to use a harsh chem method to get high at least once
call it a drug, call it what you will...i won't go further but once you understand on a gut level that your brain really is an organic being affected by organic molecules...once you TRULY understand that the reality you experience is a plaything of the molecules in yr environment it changes you

in that sense, everyone NEEDS to use "drugs" to get high but an accidental chemical poisoning (my case) will give you the same information

Coffee, alcohol, pot, something stronger, or prescribed meds; even the rush and crash of sugar. People are chemically altering their states every day, if not to the extent of some of the hallucinogenics.

I know what it's like being stoned out my gourd, even though I would never do it again. I wouldn't change a thing, and have no regrets.

Being open minded is healthy, and I would encourage people to experiment, but there is nothing wrong with never trying drugs, either.

those folk who think if you hear a voice in yr head it's conscience -- they REALLY TRULY are too stupid/ignorant to know that chemicals/propaganda/advertising can put a voice in your head -=- those people NEED to experience gut level what happens when a chemical plays w/ yr brain

47. Yes
And for more reasons than entertainment. I think it made me think about things differently, put some things in perspective and made the creative juices flow on another level from when I was sober. I enjoyed, for the most part, the times I was "high" on a variety of substances. I have done my fair share of drugs and can honestly say I was never really addicted to any of them. Pot, to an extent, but nothing else.

Cigarettes are another story. It's the only one I can't seem to quit. :( And that's legal. Go figure.

51. In short, no.
But people who HAVEN'T tried it shouldn't criticize.

It's not a necessity. It certainly isn't for everybody. But I submit that responsible drug use does little if any harm to society, and that therefore society has no right to deny it to a free person. Yes, some would say that drug use is rarely responsible. I would answer that millions smoke marijuana in a responsible way, which is to say that they still get their jobs or homework done and pay their bills.

I'd like to point out that getting high is legal as long as you go to a doctor and ensure the pharmaceutical companies make some money off the deal. Perhaps I could say that everyone who wants to have an informed opinion on drugs should try catching a buzz once in a while, and that everyone who's walking around with a rod up their butt with great indignation about SOMETHING or other could definitely benefit from a buzz.

61. for all the naysayers...
an altered state of consciousness is crucial to a healthy life... whether it be from sex, an early morning walk watching the beautiful sunrise, hiking up a mountain, reading excellent poetry, a drink once in awhile, a smoke once in awhile, a stimulating conversation, a bit of good dark chocolate etc...

the key is to keep it real and know the limits and do it without harming yourself...

67. Certainly not. Some people have addiction baked into their physical makeup, and
they should not play with things like drugs or alcohol. If your first exposure to these things is bliss itself, you are very likely an addict and should steer clear of it. If you had an addict parent, I personally would say it's wise to simply abstain completely.

Almost every addict I've ever known described their first experience with drugs or alcohol the same way. They say it was the greatest thing they'd ever felt.

69. I don't know if I should opine, since the worst thing I've done in 21 years is weekend Red Bull.
I gotta be honest. I'm not a "Yay for Drugs!!!" person. I know that really goes against the grain of DU in general but there it is.

It's mostly because I'm a parent and want my kid to be clean as long as possible. I have a social worker wife who tells me every other day about drug using and abusing families on her caseload. I never saw a positive story of recreational drug use in junior high, college or life in general.

The old wives tale about marijuana being this culturally unifying panacea . . . well, it's steaming bullshit. An asshole who smokes weed is still an asshole. Weed doesn't make a bully mellow or friendly. Weed also doesn't make people more tolerant; if anything, I've seen it make people far more defensive. You get called "shallow", "no fun", "closed minded". :eyes: Grow up in a few towns worth of this and it's an eye opener.

I never equated "opening your mind" with "taking the path of least resistance".
