1. I saw a worse graphic on FR
It had a diving jet perched on the central minaret, with pillars in front topped by box cutters. It also had a neon sign whose message I don't remember (and I don't have the heart to go back there to check it).

These developments are disturbing. We've had protests at proposed mosque sites around the country, a pipe bombing at a mosque in FL, and the severe beating of a Muslim ballplayer by members of the opposing team who shouted racist slurs at him. The RW has ramped up the incendiary rhetoric to the point where it's actually DANGEROUS to be a Muslim in America.

Muslim groups are now beginning to cancel or reschedule their religious holiday events that fall around 9/11 because they have a real fear of violence.

It's like deja vu "all over again." A repeat of civil rights struggles of the '60s.

5. 3. Identification of enemies/scapegoats as a unifying cause.
3. Identification of enemies/scapegoats as a unifying cause. The most significant common thread among these regimes was the use of scapegoating as a means to divert the people’s attention from other problems, to shift blame for failures, and to channel frustration in controlled directions. The methods of choice—relentless propaganda and disinformation—were usually effective. Often the regimes would incite “spontaneous” acts against the target scapegoats, usually communists, socialists, liberals, Jews, ethnic and racial minorities, traditional national enemies, members of other religions, secularists, homosexuals, and “terrorists.” Active opponents of these regimes were inevitably labeled as terrorists and dealt with accordingly.
