13 Bears Surround Police In Pot Field
CHRISTINA LAKE, British Columbia -- Police who uncovered two marijuana fields near the U.S.-Canada border had to tread carefully: 13 black bears were wandering around the crops.

The fields of about 2,300 plants were found near Christina Lake, just a few miles from the border.

Royal Candian Mounted Police Cpl. Dan Moskaluk says that when police arrived in the area two weeks ago, they discovered the bears and cautiously went about making the seizure.

He says the bears were docile and obviously were used to humans. They could be put down if they are too habituated to people.

The property's two owners were arrested on charges of production and possession of a controlled substance.

It's unclear if they used the bears to guard the pot fields or just liked having them as pets.

1. This is so funny on so many levels, including the headline.
Hmm, did the owners hire the bears?

Hmm, perhaps the bears were stoned!

Thanks for the laugh!

3. Too funny. Bait the bears to hang around your dope plantings.
That would keep would-be thieves away, no doubt. Clever growers!

We both thought that this is a natural for "The Colbert Report". Maybe one of Stephen's "Wag of the Finger, Tip of the Hat" segments. :-)

If you think a Momma Grizzly defending her cubs is ferocious, just imagine her whacked out with Reefer Madness. (She'll probably accuse you of knocking up her daughter, after you reject her creepy, ganja-fueled advances. Then you'll end up posing semi-nude in Playgirl magazine - a desperate move which just makes you fodder for more bears.) There's one bright spot in this picture, though. To get away you don't have to outrun the bear, just your bag of Cheetos.

In bear country the rule is carry pepper spray and spray on the slowest human.

I rake my late fall pears and apples into piles so the black bear do a good clean up.

17. OK, funny but not funny...
Funny if the bears just naturally gravitated toward the pot and chewed on the leaves every so often to get themselves mellow.

Not funny if those so-called "humans" were using the bears to guard their crop, causing them to be habituated to humans, meaning that at some point they're likely to hurt a human being because they're not afraid of them...and end up being killed because of it. If that's the case, those "humans" are fucking assholes who got what they deserved.

20. Well, let's put it this way...
if you were going through a field and saw a bear, would you continue on your merry way, or would you find somewhere else to go?

You don't really have to train the bear; it just has to be a goddamned bear.

30. If you want bears to stick around, all you have to do is provide food
that's why it's beyond idiotic to feed wild bears.

They keep coming back, and they lose their fear of humans.
