'Enhanced patdown' at airports questioned
The American Civil Liberties Union of Massachusetts is questioning the propriety of stepped-up security checkpoint procedures at airports in Boston and Las Vegas.

The Transportation Security Administration says screeners at Logan International Airport are testing what one official called an "enhanced patdown." It lets screeners use a palms-forward, slide-down search procedure on passengers' bodies.

It replaces the old back-of-the-hand patdown for passengers who don't want to go through full-body scanning machines, the Boston Herald reports.

*

The group questions whether the new technique is effective enough to justify what it calls a "seemingly constant erosion of privacy."

1. So do the passengers get an extra carry-on
if they let themselves be felt up?

3. Hmmm, a human body toting weapons would be less likely to
float so I vote we do the Salem Mass thing, if they float send them through, if they don't well they probably didn't need to fly that badly after all.

7. so, the choice is to be felt up or to provide naked video for the voyeurs?
I am surprised the airlines have not complained about the passengers being scared away from flying.
I am NOT surprised that people still put up with the increasingly invasive rules, laws and
behaviors that are conditioning them so well.

We do indeed end with a whimper, not a bang.

i stopped flying. and it isnt out of fear. it is out of pissed. i refuse to knuckle down to loss of right for preceived feeling of safe, when factually we know it is bullshit.

9. If I fly through there I'll wear a loose dress and just whip it off for them
Wonder if I'd get into trouble or not. I really don't care if a bunch of people saw my aging body, would make a point though.

16. The plastique is not the reason we are being searched and prodded.
