iReporter Lisa Oaks posted an iReport this week that caught our eye -- a photo of a man in the Dallas Fort-Worth Airport wearing short shorts and a halter top. "This is ok for a male revue nightclub, but not for public daytime," said Oaks, whose husband Mark snapped the shot.

According to Mark, the passenger was allowed to board his American Airlines flight, which he said came as a surprise. "If a woman was dressed like that, there's no way she would get past the parking lot," he said. Lisa echoed his thoughts. "Rules of dress in public places like airports should be uniform policy and enforced for all sexes," she explained.American Airlines' conditions of carriage state that passengers who are "clothed in a manner that would cause discomfort or offense to other passengers" may be refused entry on flights. We have contacted the airline for additional comments on this issue.

Oh, for goodness' sake.
Who cares what some random passenger is wearing? I suggest that this person mind her own business and sit down so the plane can take off.

Yeah, it's his funeral
That's literally since it just screams "synthetics!"

Natural fibre clothing is the most sensible for air travel, long pants and long sleeves that don't melt are your best bet at getting out of any fire situation with few serious burns.

At least there's no way he's smuggling explosives under that getup, except maybe in the hip waders...

55. Nobody should be thrown off a flight because he or she is dressed
in a way that other people don't think is appropriate. If the person's naughty bits are covered, they should fly. It's that simple. Whoever thinks they should be able to judge others clothing is a fool, man or woman. The guy's naughty bits are covered. He flies. The same should apply to women on airplanes. This is stupid.

60. Actually there are health issues in crowded settings with lots of
"skin" exposed. As non-hospital associated MRSA (Methicillin resistant Staph aureus) infections continue unabated into community settings there will likely come a time where there will need to be a requirement for skin to be routinely covered in crowded settings--there already is, if you have skin lesions and work in high risk settings for spread.

As mentioned, those flying are also wise to wear natural fibers and long sleeves and pants in the event of fire...

Not every issue can be so readily chalked up to "prudery" ....

65. I'm not being hypocritical at all. It is lame to suggest that
people's bare skin is an issue on airline flights. In the summertime, virtually everyone has bare arms on every airplane. The man in the photo is exposing no more bare skin than many female passengers do.

I don't care what your profession is. You're making poor excuses to justify criticizing that man's attire. What he wears on the plane should be no concern of mine your yours. He is not naked. None of his private parts are exposed. There is no issue.

You're just blowing smoke. We encounter bare skin every day. Would you have everyone be covered from head to toe? Feh!

Am I rude? Yes, sometimes, I am.

12. Everybody was probably laughing too hard
Yeah, a young woman probably wouldn't be boarded wearing that, but this fashion disaster isn't a woman - it's an older man.

There may have been some concern on the assumption that this was a gay man and that it would be discriminatory, but probably not. After all, it wasn't as if other passengers were going to have their eyes popped out of their heads ogling those thunder thighs.

Now if he had been wearing a very short skirt, I'm pretty sure that they would have yanked him. But they allow men to wear shorts and a t-shirt as long as they cover the area, and technically he does have a shirt and shorts that cover. He really isn't exposing any private parts.

Ten to one an older woman would have been let on as well with that outfit.

They may rewrite their policies to cover this sort of thing, but I'm betting their policy didn't cover it as it stood.

a flight in Alaska from Fairbanks to Anchorage that was otherwise all military. It was a commercial flight so I don't know how we got the two available seats, however, I believe we would have been quite welcome in short shorts and a halter top. It was cold and we were wearing boots, parkas and other cold weather wear. We were still very welcome in spite of only our faces showing. :-)

If a woman had dressed like that, basically a halter top and shorts just inches long, then she would have almost certainly been denied boarding. And that was the topic of the thread. I agree with the ireporter in the blog that a woman would have been shown the exit.

51. I truly don't care how people dress - this man included
It's what they do and how they act that matters to me.

used to be jeans weren't allowed either but that changed some time ago.

78. I've ridden Business and First Class
and there was no prohibition against shorts. In this sweltering heat, it's the best way to travel.

59. I would have loved to have been
the one who drove his taxi to the airport. Sir, do you need help with those bags? I wouldn't want you to rip your stockings? I love it. What the hell! Why don't I ever get to be the one who sees this stuff? My kids would think I was so cool if I'd snapped that picture. Ohhhh........the stories.

Mercy me, now I have to go find a hankie to wipe my eyes.

69. Well, that's one of the more aesthetically disturbing ensembles I've seen lately,
but as long as I don't have to look at his scrotum I guess I don't care much what he wears on the plane -- though I do reserve the right to mock him. Should there ever be an emergency requiring an evacuation, however, he's gonna be damn sorry he wore those short shorts. Those slides are somewhat abrasive, and he'll get rug burns on whatever parts of his buns are exposed.
