1. Kerry testified before Congress in 1971, but Johnson was long gone by then.

4. LBJ was still alive until 1973
I never read the Goodwin biography, so I don't know if there were any comments on LBJ's reaction there. I have never read any.

7. I have the biography but I haven't read it.
Picked it up at a yard sale last year and the author's name on it is Doris Kearns (without the Goodwin).

3. I am sure that LBJ and Kerry knew about each other

Kerry obviously knew that LBJ was President and LBJ was alive and likely still very interested in politics in 1971 - so there is no way that he didn't hear of Kerry's Senate testimony. (I wonder if Goodwin's book mentioned any thoughts LBJ might have had in 1971. Remember he opted not to run to try to end the war.) Kerry did know some of the people from the JFK cabinet, who continued with LBJ - as one of his Yale roommates - still a close JK friend - was the nephew of McGeorge Bundy and William Bundy.

I never read that Kerry met him, but I did read that when he visited the capital, Nixon went out of his way to meet Kerry. (There was a photo of them shaking hands that was shown in 2004. The expression on Kerry's face looked like he was rather incredulous that he was shaking Nixon's hand.
