Man accused of stabbing dog may face charges

The U.S. Park Police plan to seek charges against a man suspected of stabbing a dog four times with a knife at San Francisco's Fort Funston, an agency representative said Sunday.

The dog, named Lenny, suffered a damaged spleen and lung and is recovering at home after surgery, said park ranger George Durgerian. The suspect, a 33-year-old man whose name has not been released, is not under arrest but may be by the end of the week, Durgerian said.

The stabbing occurred as the suspect walked his pit bull at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Fort Funston, which is part of the Golden Gate Recreation Area, Durgerian said. Lenny's owner told investigators that the suspect attacked after she asked him if his dog was neutered.
