I had an instructor in j-school who worked for an organization called "impact." It's purpose was to go into volatile countries and train the media how NOT to inflame the situation. It was founded after the Rwandan genocide as it was largely fueled by such things. I'm not worried about genocide in the USA, but I am worried about similar effects.

The internet is even worse. This unchecked series of tubes just seems to spiral people's hate, and makes it easier for like-minded hate-mongers to network. It also makes it easier for good people to network, but I think that it becomes so easy for regular people to go from being moderate left or righ to being INSANE left or right once they spend time talking to such people on line.

At one time, you had to actually think of your own opinion, allowing more room for rational thought... now it can easily be provided for you by the likes of free republic and DU.

A bit scary.

1. Right, but one could take an opposing view.
In other words, the interconnection between all of us internationally could lead to good things.

Eventually, it will. At least I still believe that.

This is my take. People will have major evil hate feasts but then feel satiated
at one point they feel eboldened to go to shared messagebooks and express their rage and opinions with the enemy but then again they feel satiated and not much will happen.
