Ron Paul: Opposition to Islamic center in New York is nothing more than hate and Islamophobia
Edited on Tue Aug-24-10 03:43 AM by ck4829
"It is repeatedly said that 64% of the people, after listening to the political demagogues, don’t want the mosque to be built. What would we do if 75% of the people insist that no more Catholic churches be built in New York City? The point being is that majorities can become oppressors of minority rights as well as individual dictators. Statistics of support is irrelevant when it comes to the purpose of government in a free society—protecting liberty.

This is all about hate and Islamaphobia."

1. I wonder if the Tea Party types will pressure Rand Paul to denounce his dad on this?
They don't like them Islams out there in the Bluegrass State.

7. Opinions like this
are why Ron Paul was never ever more than a fringe candidate, even to the Rethuglican party. He's just too much 'himself' to be acceptable to the average Repuke voter.

13. The Tea-Baggers are funded by astroturf money people that could care less about Mosques
As long as Rand Paul is for privatizing social security, repealing the health care bill, and more tax cuts for the rich, you won't hear a word of complaint out of the tea-baggers.

2. I thought his brand of libertarianism only believed in property rights.
more property = more rights

It's pretty sad that he's to the left of many Democrats on this.

3. Property rights is where his position is coming from.
Libertarians would have no problem putting a porn shop next door to a high school or opera house.

4. Let's categorize everyone as tolerant or intolerant instead of dems or repugs, libs or cons, etc.

11. There, mushmouth Democrats; was that so very hard?
"This is all about hate and Islamophobia." If the words don't come naturally to you, there's only seven of them. Rehearse them, practice them, and get familiar with them. The rights of the Constitution really are meant to apply to everyone. If you let them be taken away from Muslims today, they will surely be taken away from you tomorrow.
