Truly, there are "angels" in our lives.
The other day I tripped on an uneven sidewalk downtown and fell, scraping a knee and my right hand. Two women who happened to be walking by helped me up, offered the bandaids in their purses, offered to get medical help. The Thai food vendor whose street cart was nearby offered ice and hand sanitizer. The two ladies helped me into City Hall where I was going to pay my car tax.

I cannot thank those people -- complete strangers -- enough. I was not seriously injured but they took time out of their lunch hour to assist me. One of the women started to tear up. I hugged them and told them "you two are angels."

I'm not religious but I have seen such kindness before...when my frail, elderly mother and my disabled brother needed some help and I could not always be in Texas with them but made as many trips as I could to get them in secure living arrangments. In particular, nursing home staff who worked very hard at very little pay and still remained cheerful and always nice.

I am so grateful for these lovely folks...

1. That is a great story
It reminds me of the Good Samaritan, which is a story that is often misinterpreted. The Samaritans were a religious group about as popular as Muslims are in North America right now. JC's point was much more than "be nice to other people," but that the people who treat you nice are your true neighbours. Something to consider these days...

2. There are some who pass by and others who are caring...
As bad as things are in the economy and with all the hatred against minority groups, there are these bright spots of kindness coming from many places. It's a lesson I re-learn all the time...

5. I'm glad that you recognized them for what they were
Because for all the supernatural mumbo jumbo, that's all angels really are - the representation of our better selves. (And for me, Religion is really just about treating others as you should be treated)
This story is really quite uplifting, which is good because I'm so depressed about the way things are going right now. Thank you.

4. I was a little embarrassed to fall on the street but I literally couldn't get up by myself
and I was trembling. These two ladies had to help me put the bandaids on...the vendor could have been mad since it was during his busiest time, but he helped anyway.

Minutes after I fell another woman tripped on the same uneven pavement...she didn't go down but could have...if it had been worse, she (and I) could have sued the city and we'd have had a whole bunch of witnesses...I'm just grateful it didn't come to that and that neither she nor I were seriously hurt...
