MSNBC beat FOX & CNNin total viewers in July!
http://www.newsonnews.net/msnbc/3969-msnbc-reaches-more-viewers-than-fox-news-channel-or-cnn-in-july.html

MSNBC Reaches More Viewers Than Fox News Channel or CNN in July

MSNBC topped CNN in total day for July among viewers 25-54 by 13% (145,000 vs. 128,000). The network also beat CNN by a 67% margin in viewers 18-34. Additionally, MSNBC reached more viewers A25-54 than Fox News Channel or CNN in July (21,682,000), ranking number one in that category for the first time in a non-Olympic month in two years (July 2008).

Article also details how MSNBC individual shows beat CNN's same time slot shows. I think this is GREAT NEWS! I know I used to watch Wolff B all the time but haven['t tuned in for a LONG TIME. Really, the only time I tune into cnn is Sunday AM, and of course NEVER tune into FOX. Hell, I don't even know what channel # they are!

24. The Fun Of Playing With "the Numbers"...
I used to work with ratings...made a pretty good buck "interpreting" them for clients...meaning finding something/anything in those numbers that makes my client look good.. The joy of Arbtiton or Neilsen is they put out so many different catagories...demographics, sex, location and so on that I can make a station no one heard of claim it was number one. Sure, it might be women 14-24 from 3 to 4pm on alternating Thursdays...but the numbers are there, ya just gotta look for 'em.

My bets are that Faux probably has the lead still with 18 plus...since the network is top-heavy with old folks. Recently there was a report that showed the "average" Faux viewer was over 65. Thus while MSNBC may have won the coveted 18-54 demos...a very good thing (especially for advertisers), faux can claim the most viewers in geriatric wards and retirement communities.

Yaaayy!...I hope Keith or Rachel mentions it tonite.

7. Could it be that MSNBC for the most part reports the news?
Most of the shows on MSNBC strive to be factual ("Morning Blow (Hard)" excluded).

Faux isn't news, it's propaganda, and it feeds the lowest levels of human intellect, plus those who are bigots, war mongers, and full of hate.

CNN tries to copy Faux because it thinks that's what people want. (Network has been shit since Ted Turner sold it.)

Contrast Faux shows like Bill O'Reilly, Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity, and the morning show with the bleached blonde in the low cut dresses with her boobs hanging out, and CNN shows like Candy Crowley, Wolfe Blitzer, etc., with Keith Olbermann, Rachel Maddow, Ed Schultz, etc., and you can see the difference.

Good for MSNBC. Now if you could just do something with Joe and his lap doll Mika... :eyes:

10. I wish they would rerun their prime time shows over the weekend...
Actually, I wish they would air current news over the weekend, but if that's not an option, then why not just rerun their most popular shows instead of the stupid lockup shows?

I would love to catch a Maddow marathon on a lazy Sunday since my evenings are usually too chaotic to watch her regularly during the week. Plus it would help attract new viewers.

12. MSNBC is now on Sirius Channel 90 and XM Channel 130 - MSNBC TV, all day (and night) LIVE!
Edited on Tue Aug-24-10 04:16 PM by GreenTea
And of course also on Internet television - http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3096434/ns/msnbc_tv

But on weekends unfortunately it's just those repetitious jail programs.

18. One of these days they need to do something about it. It's like Bedlam in England,
hundreds of years ago, when the towns allowed the public to go into the mental wards sightseeing, gawking at the sick people, marveling at their odd behavior. They made money from their weekend events as they charged the public for the entertainment.

They moved on at some point when they apparently realized it was simply wrong, and gave up that form of exploitation of people's misery.

21. I hate those Lockup shows!
Gawd I hate those shows so much. I keep my TV on MS-NBC, and when my kid turns on the tube on the weekends, guess what's the first thing he sees? One of those shows like Lockup! What's up with that? They're disgusting! There's no excuse for this crap to be on a real news network. Anyone know why they air this garbage? I really want to know. I'd rather see a test pattern on the screen.

Edited on Tue Aug-24-10 04:22 PM by LaPera
Along with Thom Hartmann, Laura Flanders on Free Speech Television (FSTV) and Jon Stewart & Bill Maher on Comedy Central & HBO respectively!!

Democracy Now with Amy Goodman on FSTV is also very good ....but that's about it for ALL of television for progressive voices, sadly.

Life is full of change, but one thing we can always rely on is Fox News' continued domination of the cable news ratings. The Nielsen ratings for the second quarter of 2010 were released Tuesday, and yet again, Fox News is way ahead of with the competition, claiming the top 10 programs in cable news. The #1 cable news show NOT on Fox News? MSNBC's "Countdown with Keith Olbermann."

15. I didn't read in your link where MSNBC beat Faux in total viewers?

It is great they beat them in A25-54 which is most important to advertisers.

I have noticed that Beck's ratings are up slightly but I attribute that to ding-dong's upcoming rally.

23. Hmmmm...
Could this maybe have something to do with the fact that Cenk Uygur has been used increasingly more over the last 2 months?

Could having an actual progressive powerhouse on the network be good for ratings?

I dont know, I'm just saying.
