my freeper brother sent me a +photo+ of a hispanic guy
in a group with a sign demanding free, undemand, healthcare with a threat to kill more AZ policemen. Instincively , I deleted it without sending it to snopes and now I can't find it (fwd-bcc) It seems absurd , anyone seen it?

1. I got one from a freeper neighbor
it had a photo of a skunk and said something like "It's just like Obama, half white, half black, and stinks all to hell."

7. I let them continue to send that crap to me...
so I can put together a good debunking, then send it, "Reply All" (because the original usually went to a list). While not disinviting it, I seem to be getting fewer RW viral e-mails, for some reason. :)

I save those messages in a special file labeled, "Wingnut Crap." :)

6. Here is an article about it:
http://www.examiner.com/skepticism-in-atlanta/a-sign-of-the-times

and it looks like it's fake:

"A little manipulation of contrast and brightness settings on the photo reveal that it shows obvious signs of tampering. There is a lot of digital smearing between the two signs the protester caries (if there ever were two signs) and the tampering corresponds strongly with someone erasing the original text and writing over it to form the offensive message. In other words, this appears to be a fake. I'd like to see the "real" photos. But even if they don't turn up, this one's busted. Whatever the sign once said, it was altered to say the inflammatory things it says now."

8. Zoom in on that picture
and look at the hand holding the sign. It looks wrong to me - like there are 7 or 8 knuckles.

20. I put it in my graphics program.
The pixels are wrong between the hand and the sign. It's a shop job.

10. I have a Republican realtor friend
who is actually a delightful person aside from politics. She did vote for Obama, but every once in awhile she sends me a viral e-mail that's usually a few months old that starts out with an inocuous question like, "DID YOU HEAR ABOUT THIS?" The last one had to do with taxpayers being charged an average of $6,800 a year to make their homes more green-friendly. The footnotes at the bottom were from freedomworks and poisonplanet.

I sent her links to mediamatters and factcheck.org which totally debunked the e-mail as an urban myth.

But in this particular case, I sent her the link about the Koch brothers from the New Yorker. Told her these are the evil bastards who are behind a lot of the claptrap. I'm gonna have breakfast with her tomorrow and will ask her to fact check what comes her way before she forwards it on to others. She's a very sharp lady, so maybe she'll come around. I have to keep in mind she worked in the White House during the wonderful Nixon years.

15. Wingnuts don't care if it's true or not
No matter how much their bullshit is debunked on snopes, factcheck, et al, they will continue to spread it around. They don't care if it makes them look like idiots for doing so. Their strategy is that if they can find just a few people stupid enough to believe it, their chain email spewing will be a success. It's pretty sad if you think about it much.

17. I used to get a lot of RW crap emails
from friends of relatives before I refuted their points using Snopes. They pointed out in their few subsequent emails "if you don't believe me you can look it up on Snopes." I figured I got under their skin enough that they wanted to have some proof on their side. I believe much of what the RW MSM collective clowns throw around is more inflammatory and distractionary than anything else.

23. I used to get a few like that
"if you don't believe me you can look it up on Snopes."
When I checked and it was debunked, I hit reply all and pointed out that it WAS debunked on snopes.
Pretty soon I started getting a lot less of this garbage.

22. My family long ago learned to stop sending me that crap.
At first I tried arguing with them, then I figured out they weren't even reading the rebuttals.
So I started getting behind a proxy and signing them up for all sorts of stuff. (They knew who it was, but they can't prove it.)

Rational arguments didn't stop it, but a non-stop flood of flavored lube samples in clearly marked boxes did.
