Do you ever feel like progressives are drowning?
I feel like the waters of fascism have risen so high and so fast, I'm starting to look for a tall tree to climb. Are the vast majority of Americans going to bring us all down?

I've always seen America and Americans from the perspective of Madison, WI. A liberal bastion, truly great people, and a great place to raise a family. But now I realize I've been living somewhat in a cocoon. Even though I am not a "believer", my understanding of what it means to "follow Christ" has crashed into the reality of greed and "I got mine, loser!"

The most depressing thing of all is I feel betrayed after voting for democrats all my life. Not that I would EVER vote for a republican, but more and more I realize that the Democratic party has been hijacked by moneyed interests and professional swindlers. The change and hope thing has opened my eyes wider than ever.

Even when you win, you lose.

5. in areas like mine,it is a reality. So much so,I had to warn my family
..if anything ever happened to me,it probably wasn't an accident.

Living in an 80% right-wing district...blithering Christian-right racist assholes that my neighbors are...they have little tolerance for anything that hasn't been spoon fed to them.

What would they say if Jesus was black?

21. Their heads would explode? Nah, just as long as he isn't black.
I mean they can get along with Jews. I bet each one would have a list of one or two Jews that they think sing good or are funny.

12. I think they're losing focus.
I don't think they understand where they need to go on the attack. They're, sort of spread out. They have to fight the DLCers and the extreme right-wing. It would be smarter if they learned to isolate the two into two different strategies. You fight the extreme right wing in the courts and in the newspapers. The DLCers, who are very poll-driven, will be easier to pull into your views once the mainstream understands the problem as well as we do.

26. My prescription is realizing it isn't a separate fight, they are the same sneetches stars or not
Nor can they be fought mainly in court because the biggest issues are the economic ones, the ones that grind all of us down and even force us to finance the propaganda for the rest of their manufactured hate mongering.

I have no interest in sorting fascists, I could care less which is more secular. Preference of total fucked isn't worth fighting for, I'm going after them and take my chances.

14. welcome to our nightmare
all along there have been more than a few Dems who would sell their Mammas for power and whatever. Most Dems wouldn't. There are even a few pubbies who wouldn't.

Politics takes a lot of time and patience. And lots of effort. As long as you know it's the right thing to do and you keep at it, AND get enough people to see that it is right, you'll win. That's the beauty of free speech.

And remember, there are great and powerful forces arrayed against you, that's why it takes so much time and effort.

Keep on keeping on. Don't let the bastards win.

now, and they get more respect than we do.

People who believe in the Young Created Earth, and all the other RW nonsense get places of honor on the news and political programs on TV - Progressives don't get on at all other than a few minutes on MSNBC, but only in the evenings on weeknights...sometimes.

The most progressibe person I have yet seen on TV is Richard Reich, who I think of as a slightly left liberal...

Hard times, man.

22. I don't watch TV so I don't feel that way. Nearly everyone I know is more liberal
than 99% of our reps in DC. America is a very liberal Country, but the right wing minority has the megaphone because we refuse to restore the Fairness Doctrine. Restore it and you'll no longer feel that Progressives are drowning.

23. Severe economic down turn, two wars etc.
It's natural to feel down in an economic climate like this. Add to it the fact that the Dems are in a trifecta of power and even though they weren't wholly responsible for the mess that we are coming out of, they are the lightening rods. Another fact that seems to be forgotten quite a bit is that very little happens in Washington without compromise. That is the reason that these bills contain kickbacks to the right. So the bills get watered down a bit. The Dems still take the flak for performance even in areas that are supposed to be influenced very little by politics.
