I think some of you may get a trifle upset at the wording on this plaque, I know I did.

2. apparently
the guy who lead the drive to have a Vietnam veterans memorial, Jan Scruggs, is my dad's first cousin, never met him. I also lived in Apalachicola when it was dedicated and never went to see it. In fact most of the people of Apalachicola never went to see it. I think it was just regarded as another tourist trap that outsiders insist on building around town. Still it is kind of strange that it is only dedicated to southern soldiers, but knowing the local assholes I am not really surprised.

That is specifies "those persons from the South" doesn't shock me.

I've seen a lot of city and state memorials that specify members from that city or state, but never from a region of the US.
