The 2010 primary season is OVER, those ready to help the Democrats & Obama win November check in!!!
Well here we stand a week before Labor Day which is the home stretch for the midterm elections of 2010, probably the most important midterms in history.

Our President, our Speaker and our Majority leader need us to step up and turn out the vote. We may lose some seats but we need to keep our majorities and we can do that.

There are many on our side who are not motivated to support our candidates, some will come around, some will with some effort and some are a lost cause. Don't worry about those who won't budge, worry about those who you know will come around with some effort.

I understand the concerns of those who are dissatisfied but I'm not going to waste my time trying to motivate those who have already given up, those Democrats/DUers who claim Obama is no different that Bush, those Democrats/DUers who claim Obama, Pelosi and Reid sold us out, those Democrats/DUers who claim they wish Obama would go back to Chicago (had that happen today in another thread).

I want their support but I realize they are a lost cause and every minute I/you waste on them is a minute that could have been spent encouraging others on the fence who are willing to support our Democratic leaders in November. The way to advance a progressive agenda is not to allow Republicans to earn majorities in Congress.

Those of us who appreciate what Obama, Pelosi and Reid have accomplished and have left to accomplish need to hit the ground running because we have to fight both the negativity of our opponents and the negativity on those on our side who think the best way to move this country forward is to stay home, discourage others and let the GOP reclaim the House and/or the Senate.

I'm not one of those people.

I would ask for the K&R, but I'm mindful that for every "rec" there will be an "unrec" so lets do what we can to keep it kicked, and keep it kicked by sharing what you are doing, can do or others can do to win this election in November.

There is so much to motivate me, but I also believe that by holding majorities in both chambers we might very well deliver a knockout blow to the Republicans who are busy measuring the drapes and planning their investigations.

Yes We Can!

22. Is it more important to support Dem majorities or make sure your OP gets lots of Recs?
A good thread usually gets lots of Recs, so why are you obsessing and keeping track of the Recs your thread gets?

I gave you an UnRec for complaining about them and it was no accident. Your thread is doing just fine and in 24 hours from now when nobody can any longer Rec or UnRec your OP I will respond and kick it to the top of the GD forum where it can be read.

118. Especially when they immediately whine about an UnRec & the OP now has 131 Recs
and is on the Front Page. Once it's off the Front Page it will fade away unless somebody kicks it by responding, which goes to show that a kick is ultimately more important than a Rec.

3. Count me in.
I've been looking forward to this since the Rethugs and Teabaggers started proclaiming victory. I can't wait to wake up the morning after and listen to the wailing and gnashing of teeth when they realize they've failed again.

And we can't just worry about DC though. We have to work on getting Democratic, progressive governors elected, especially with redistricting coming up. I remember last time here in Texas when the Rethugs in Austin did everything they could to disenfranchise everyone they could.

Not too happy with the majority we have in both houses but do understand some of the reasons why. At any rate I will continue to be a down and dirty cut to the bone democrat if need be and will help our party in any way I can. So I guess you can count me in.

13. Whether they hold Congress or not, I know what the post-election spin will be.
Edited on Sun Aug-29-10 08:00 PM by Marr
"Disregard liberals".

If the Democrats hold onto Congress, it will be called a validation of their recent "moderate" (i.e. center/right) approach. Liberals will be labeled irrelevant, since our anger didn't result in any big problems for the party.

If they lose, it will be proof that the liberals can't be counted on, and should therefore be ignored. Many will even claim the loss was the result of governing too far to the *left*.

I intend to support the people I consider good representatives, and I'll be volunteering locally. The sell-outs can sink for all I care. In the long run, I think a compromised majority is actually worse than a principled minority.

And the mainstream media will happily validate the spin with the Sunday talking heads babbling about how useless the left is and that it really is dead, and then Kaine or Ford or some DLC Dipsh!t will pop off that they have to move to the right to capture the votes of the supposed moderate republicans that showed up.

I'm a liberal and a progressive and I dare you to tell me I'm not.

No one said that YOU weren't a liberal/progressive -- which fails as an explanation

for your effort to create an attack on you.

And, for your little display of a fighting attitude --

What's obvious is that you are a very nervous liberal/progressive --

As far as I can see, liberals/progressives don't plan to go backwards -- however,

that doesn't mean that we aren't going to have to get a lot of DLC'ers and New Dems

out of the way of -- and Blue Dogs!

That should be given major attention --

I didn't vote for a Democrat so he could put Republicans in charge of government --

Did you?

And maybe your parents find the "Cat Food Commission" non-threatening, but many other

seniors don't -- nor inspiring!

Same for Rahma and Gibbs comments -- and Simpson comments!

Can't imagine who would be inspired by their words!!

60. To start off, you are wrong. Primaries are not yet complete.
And I would say that the bulk of your verbiage is grounded in similar misconceptions about the actual events on the ground. This is still, for many Democrats, the primary season. Easy to look that up, if a person cares about facts or accuracy.
That which might win for you in Chicago would not win for me here in Oregon. Big country. If you want wins all across the map, you will need to take care of the corner you understand, and let others do the same.
You do this, if it works there. Here, such a tactic would get Democratic doors slammed in my face.

65. Want _real_ Democrats to replace Obama, Pelosi, Reid?
Step 1: Do not let the Republicans back in. If we do, it's totally over. Checkmate. We lose the opportunity to elect real Democrats at that point.

Step 2: Donate and volunteer for real Democrats in the primary season running up to 2012. Do NOT donate or help the party apparatus overall. Insurgent candidates forced onto ballots despite the plans of the corrupt party leadership.

127. Agree . . . the idea that those disillusioned with Obama are "sitting and pouting" ....
Edited on Mon Aug-30-10 08:56 PM by defendandprotect
is an illusion ---

the idea is to keep moving to the left -- and that also means ending the reign

of the DLC in the Dem Party, as well as the "New Dems" -- Blue Dogs -- or anything

else that corporate Democrats want to call themselves !!

66. Sorry, color me unimpressed
by the Dems, their lack of actions on real health-care reform, lack of action on gay marriage, lack of action on DADT, escalating the WAR in Afghanistan, the fact that Obama calls this a "good" war, the continued support of corporations over people by the Dems, and MANY other reasons leave me hesitant to vote for the Dems at all. Will I - probably.. possibly. But what I won't do is pretend they've done a great job - because they haven't.

Oh yeah also they totally covered up the crimes of Bush-Cheney - not even an investigation! Something smells pretty fishy with the Dems these days, not just the repubs. Pretty, pretty, pretty, pretty fishy.

. . .I can spend my time until I'm blue in the face talking to the "unimpressed" crowd, it won't work.

There are many more folks to motivate than those progressives who have already made up their mind not to support Democrats this time around. I'll revisit the folks after the election, but they are closed minded and not worth my time.

82. I love the image you paint of those "Acting Out"
Did your parents make you sit in the corner a lot as a child instead of talking to you about things?

Or did you just receive the latest talking point comic book that focuses on the "Professional Left" and what a bunch of whiny children they are, compared to the "Responsible Corporate Overlords".

Your right about going it alone however, no matter hom much grandstanding the desperate weasels roll out in the next few weeks.

102. Pitch perfect.
Right on that score completely.

I wish the Rahm-bots had gotten that memo before everyone and their Secretary of State's husband went out to support Blanche Lincoln. She was actually polling significantly behind her primary challenger versus her republican opponent in the fall and had stabbed the party in the back on a number of key progressive issues that, had they passed properly, might have excited the parties base and the general population. The party gave up progressive populism for old tired DLC hackery.

Had they been bolder in challenging and calling out the most obstructionist congress in American history, rather than absorbing the faux news spin and blaming the 'professional left' they might have stayed keyed on message and actually gotten message out.

The DLC. Stupid at Strategy and wrong on policy.

But yeah, I guess I'm voting. What choice do I have? (psst voting in absolute dejected resignation really isn't helping here)

However . . . undeniably, the DLC'ers Obama took on -- Rahm Emmanuel and Gibbs --

and the Cat Food Commission -- and the economic team made up of those who created the problem --

and Obama's pick in Simpson and other vicious right wingers he put on the CFC panel --

certainly are "bashing" liberals/progressives, seniors and Gays/Lesbians!!

UNIONS -- the biggest of them under attack in the huge Teachers' UNION!!

And, another minor group ... WOMEN!!

when the democrats start acting like Democrats and disband the Catfood Commission, work on jobs (a 21st century Green WPA), stop giving money to Wall Street and the Pentagon and start helping out the 1 million homeless children and their families. I didn't work my ass off in 2006 and 2008 to elect Democratic majorities so that conservatives could run the agenda but unfortunately that is exactly what has happened from HCR to financial regulation to the Catfood commission and so I don't intend on wasting my time and taking time away from my family unless I see action, words are no longer going to be enough. Flame away, I'm just a f**king retarded liberal that should probably be drug tested.

88. If we don't care ...
We will all lose. Democrats by choice are all of varied opinions.

Even though we all want the same things, we will fight each other about the little things.

I will add here, as we should.

No names, no emotions, no little quigglies about how much was done or not done.
Am I completely satisfied? Hell no! Am I glad there is not a McCain White House?
Hell yes!

Do we need to get past all this crap and concentrate on the larger picture?
Hell, yes! I live close to Hell MIchigan,BTW, so this is an expression we use a lot around here.

I know I'll get slammed for "oh no this again" but we need to come together and win this election.
Apathy or anger will only put the Repubs in power again. We need to realize, if you don't already, this is a census
year. Lines will get redrawn, no matter what party wins. We need it to be the Dems, or it will be ten to eleven years till
we get another chance to really make a difference. That will be too late.

We, not only as Dems, but as a class, a belief system will be marginalized, rendered impotent.

Don't vote and live with it.

Are all the choices good? (again) Hell no! Are some corporatists? Most are. But the choice does remain R or D?

I will vote for D. Better than R. Or short version: Better D than R.

When you have limited ammunition, do you save the last bullet or do you use it to win?

---power is ever stealing from the many to the few…. The hand entrusted with power becomes … the necessary enemy of the people. Only by continual oversight can the democrat in office be prevented from hardening into a despot: only by unintermitted Agitation can a people be kept sufficiently awake to principle not to let liberty be smothered in material prosperity.

It is going to be tough here in Illinois 14 and also with Obama's old senate seat. I have a list of about 20 younger voters who got out for Obama but are not likely to vote in a mid-term. I am shooting for 100% turnout with my designated group and should get it. I also called congressman Foster's office and said I would help and will be making some donations here and nationally. With have only 8 weeks to go and we must get our asses in gear.
