41. Bluebear's "purpose" is to damage the President as punishment for
..his not being quick enough in overturning DOMA and DADT.

It's called "cutting off one's nose to spite one's face".

When the GOP is controlling congress, for some reason people like Bluebear think this will result in a shift to the left in government policy.

They have it exactly backwards.

7. We need a New Deal
Somehow, FDR was able to make decisions that helped working Americans RIGHT AWAY, turned the broader economy around, and made the Democrats so popular that after four years, only 17 Republicans were left in the Senate.

This was huge. But, yes, it didn't end entirely until we had the largest public works program of all, WWII.

38. That is an astonishingly delusional and egotistical thing to say...

It is a democracy of sorts, or doesn't that matter?

The statement is either very defensive ("I am no good at explaining anything"), very elitist ("nobody at present is able to understand my BIG wisdom") or, it is simply wrong. It also echoes Bush on Iraq and the "War on Terror".

In any case, this ain't any kind of "man of the people" talk.

"History will prove me right, even though you don't get it"...

Yeah, sure.

45. Here is your interview...

"He seemed intent on casting himself as above the political fray, saying he had more important work to do than to engage in the back and forth of the political “silly season.”

For example, Obama said he did not watch any of Fox News Channel host Glenn Beck’s “Restoring Honor” rally Saturday on the National Mall.

“It’s not surprising that somebody like a Mr. Beck is able to stir up a certain portion of the country. That's been true throughout our history,” he said. But “what I’m focused on is making sure that the decisions we’re making now are going to be be not good for the nightly news, not good even necessarily for the next election, but are good for the next generation.”

"He seemed intent on casting himself as above the political fray...", may sound OK in an echo chamber but nowhere else. I realize that is NBC talking but I heard the same thing. Detachment may appeal to middle-managers but it appeals to few others.

Whatever is good for the "next generation" should also be good for "the next election", unless the administration is unable or unwilling to make its case. If the "nightly news" or the "silly opposition" are the problem, then where is the mobilization to overcome that? There is no more "important work" than communicating with the people, especially in the midst of a Great Recession.

Only birds and flying squirrels are "above the fray".

48. No... he should tell the truth... and get into a two sided conversation...
... with the country. You are the one who implies that what will "fix the country" has to be hidden from the country. If I look at your previous posts, are there many references to the stupid electorate?

This is a quasi-democracy, not King for a Day. The right-wingers fill a vacuum created by insider politics and "nudge, nudge" policy.

Let me repeat, Obama will not generate any support by claiming he knows "better"... and, it has the further disadvantage of not being true.

And many of us are convinced that their not good for the next generation either. Your education decisions is the first thing that jumps out at me in that regard, but there's much more.
