I said it yesterday, but Beck's rally
is actually GOOD NEWS.

They did not get that many people and they were not that excited, or fed red meat. It might prove to be the HIGH POINT.

We'll see, but I think we are going to see this rally as a turning point when all is said and done. The point where they did ovder reach and could not get that many people in. No matter what Beck says. 300,000 was not the number. It was 87K according to CBS and from the aerials I'd say 50K best case. This IS good news...

They were not able to get a good showing as it were... and the anger was not as visible as last years in the summer.

And I do hope I am right on this, and the Koch brothers cannot really continue to influence, or rather are sent into the edges where they belong after November, with the rest of the Whigs... err John Birchers, err Tea Partiers.

2. Looks like it was a rehab effort for Beck
To prove he isn't a racist asshole. Murdoch might have been tired of funding his show without advertising dollars.

The problem for Beck is he didn't deliver the red meat to the dogs so now they will be less likely to follow him.

4. Total anti-climax!
You're right, an unimpressive crowd shows up to hear him say some throw away boilerplate crap about god and honor? I doubt many walked away from that event inspired. I wonder how many thought: " I drove here for ...that?"

5. I think it's a good thing
That the Teabaggers put their stupidity on world wide display. Who would want to be involved with that group of inbred idiots? I actually hope they keep putting themselves out there like this, because it has to be driving the independents away in droves.

The Teabaggers have peaked. Now for their slide into oblivion.

6. Movements are about numbers and ideas.
Their numbers were nothing really to boast about (especially given Murdoch's media power), and their ideas weren't really in evidence at all.

8. Richard Scaiffe's rag, Tribune Review, claimed 500,000!
quoting the rally's organizers. That's the Pittsburgh Tribune Review.
In Scaife's latest divorce, it was revealed that he's had to subsidize this neocon rag for the past 15 years. The paper is so biased and nasty in it's political coverage that circulation is too low to make a profit. An article in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette gleefully reported on this:

'The case could also affect the fortunes of Mr. Scaife's publishing enterprise, notably the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, which, records filed with the divorce papers show, he has subsidized with more than $140 million -- Mrs. Scaife's lawyers contend the figure is $244 million -- from one of his trust funds over the past 15 years, and which has lost between $20 million and $30 million yearly since it was started in 1992."0

My ex forwards these vile editorials/columns from the Trib-Review to the disgust of his grown kids. My daughter just told him that between reading this paper and listening to Bill O'Reilly, he's rotting his brains. "You've got a Ph.D., Dad. Can't you think for yourself?"

10. Well Bock himself claimed 300K
this morning. Does this mean that Beck is a little more realistic? Scary.

And I am sorry for your ex by the way.

11. Or that he doesn't have control of his own organizers' comments to press.
Edited on Sun Aug-29-10 11:45 PM by Divernan
Back in the day, when we lived in (gag) Orange County, and Martin Luther King was leading a march in Los Angeles, and we only had one car, which my ex drove to work every day, I stated that if I had transportation, I would march with King. My ex's response was: "Over my dead body." We made it a few more years until I got a fellowship for graduate school and he ordered me to stay home.

It was "hasta la vista, baby" time, and although it was not easy to raise 3 kids on my own, I am so glad I got them away from his influence and example.

9. Sent into the edges where they belong... YOU make it happen!
Dems, you must vote. That's how it's gonna get done. Doesn't matter if you're disappointed, disaffected, pissed off, feeling left out, whatever -- move it to the polls in November!
