maddezmom,

Fighting for something means when you get knocked down, you get right back up again.

Tens of thousands of people have signed our DISCLOSEact.com petition to pledge their support for closing new loopholes in corporate election spending.

So just because we came up one vote shy of passing our bill at the end of July doesn't mean we've given up -- in fact, we're getting right back up and putting the DISCLOSE Act up for a vote again in September.

But the last vote showed we still need to build more support -- and we need your help.

Click here to write a letter to the editor of your local newspaper(s) and tell your community about the DISCLOSE Act.

Right now is the perfect time to get the word out in your community, because the Senate is on recess.

That means our Senate colleagues are all in their home states, and paying closer attention to what's going on back home.

Show your senators what's going on back home: Their constituents want them to support the DISCLOSE Act!

In April, we asked people around the country to think about what the new rules for corporations mean:

"When you buy toothpaste now, the money you spend can be used directly for television ads attacking people that you believe in without you even knowing."

Well if you've ever shopped at Target, the money you spent on toothpaste might be part of the $150,000 Target donated to run TV ads for an anti-gay, anti-minimum wage candidate in Minnesota just recently.

Target apologized for its donation (without taking its money back) once a lot of people got really mad, but next time Target -- or any other corporation -- is going to be a lot smarter about it.

That is, unless we get smarter and make them disclose their contributions first.

Our online system makes it easy to write a letter to the editor without having to look up addresses or talking points -- click here to take action now.

We'll be sure and keep you posted as this progresses.

Thanks for your support,

Patrick Leahy
U.S. Senator
Chuck Schumer
U.S. Senator

2. when we lived in TX, we were encouraged to spend money/get a credit card as schools got a % of what
we spent. Needless to say, I've now cut it up and stopped using it.
