500,000??????????

Lucky if this is even 87,000!!!

Looks more like 10,000????

Republican U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann told supporters shortly after the rally that "we're not going to let anyone get away with saying there were less than a million here today — because we were witnesses."

????

2. If that's the entire picture. It looks more like less than 50,000 to me.

4. We need comparative, overhead photos..
..of a variety of rallies. With some side-by-side estimate comparisons for reference.

5. Seems to me we have a good gauge in the Obama inauguration photos...
Which blow the BeckIsRunningforGod march out of the water.

6. While I'll admit that there were quite a few people there...
looking at this picture, it certainly can't be over 150K.

13. OK, first question is there a date/time stamp on the picture?
How else can we know if it's Beck's rally? I'd like to see some personal pictures to get a comparison.
That pix looks very similar to the the anti-war rallies and they poo-pooed that as being about 50K.

7. I wonder if they were instructed to stand wide, take up a lot of space
so that the crowd size would appear larger than it really was.

But then again, all that green space in the aerial pictures might be because they are all so full of shit they can't stand to be with in 10 feet of each other.

8. Look at all that empty space.
A million? They'd piled on top of one another.

I see grass in the foreground, empty steps on the Memorial, concrete without feet on it to the right of the pool, and a fountain without hillbilly kids bathing in it.

11. I remember being at a demonstration on the mall in
1970 that was larger and more tightly packed than this one. The press estimated the crowd between 5,000 and 10,000 at the time.

14. I remember being at a women's rally for abortion rights ... there were so many of us ...
Edited on Mon Aug-30-10 09:22 PM by defendandprotect
we couldn't get into the Mall area!! About another half of us were outside the Mall waiting

to move in - !!

It was getting dark and still an endless parade of us still walking past the White House--!!

And many on the side lines who had stopped marching!!

And, estimate by women's groups was 500,000 which I believe --

and it moved like a silk scarf!!!

16. I've Seen MUCH Bigger Crowds Outside Ohio Stadium On Saturday Afternoon.......
Edited on Mon Aug-30-10 09:38 PM by ChoppinBroccoli
...........and that place only holds 100,000.

I defy anyone to look at a picture of that crowd and TELL me that you couldn't fit every last one of those morons into your average-sized NHL or NBA arena (I used to work at an NHL arena, so I know). And hockey/basketball arenas generally hold about 20,000.

You couldn't even get to 500,000 if you counted each person 10 times. I think Glenn Beck's official "crowd size estimator" is the character Christopher Walken played on SNL in the "census taker" skit.

Oh yeah. And when I went down to the Statehouse in downtown Columbus to see Obama the Sunday before the election, the crowd was MUCH bigger AND way more tightly packed together than the one in those photos, and the Columbus Disgrace.....er, Dispatch (which is a well-known right-wing rag).......estimated the crowd at about 50,000 (even though I'm certain it was over 100,000).

18. That's Not Even A Particularly Good Crowd For A Game
Just think of the reflecting pool as the floor/ice area. Now think of the crowd surrounding it as the first deck surrounding the floor/ice. Then think of this: there are two or three more decks ABOVE the first one. This crowd probably wouldn't even NEED the upper deck. And a fully sold out basketball/hockey game, again, is about 20,000 people.

17. Heh! The attendance rivaled the crowds that "pack" into PNC Park
in Pittsburgh to witness a game between the Pirates and the Orioles.

2010, not 1979.
