Blue Cross just raised our rates at work
I was paying $72 a week for my self and my daughter, now $94 a week. We think the owners had something to do with this since they have been 'tinkering' with the plan since they took over.

Almost $400 a month for the two of us, and it's a shitty plan with a $5000 annual deductible, and it's a POS plan which requires referrals and NO reimbursement for out of network services.

Fucking sucks.

4. And to think that one of the
screeds against some kind of single payer or universal health care system is the "Choice" is being taken away from people.

I have never known of a plan which pays no matter where you go or who you say. Some are simply more limited than others. But even the best will probably ending up costing a whole lot more out of pocket if you have the poor planning to need health care when you're somewhere away from home, and therefor out of network.

8. Why should we 'count our blessings???? How rude

12. We had a $5k deductible too, and were paying $477pm. As of
Edited on Mon Aug-30-10 04:49 PM by jannyk
Sept 1st, we will be paying 'only' $440 and our deductible increases to $10K each with 60/40 co-pays! Just the two of us 62m/58f and no known illnesses (but then we haven't been to the Dr's in so long, who knows). The premium increase made the old shitty policy unaffordable. So we had to settle for a new super shitty policy.

9. This is why HCR will end up being unpopular...
There are lots of good things in the HCR bill that passed, but now the Democrats "own" health care - and considering what a mess the system is in overall, health care is not a great thing to be associated with. A huge number of people are going to blame all their rate increases, all the medical issues, etc on HealthCare Reform - without ever realizing how much WORSE things would be had HCR not passed. You can see it happening right here on DU.

Same thing is going on with the stimulus. A lot of people just can't seem to understand how much worse things would have been if it were not passed. Hell, there are people out claiming Obama is a socialist that are probably only working right now because of the stimulus package - but they won't realize it.

10. Imajika is right: 'now the Democrats "own" health care'
Partner and I have BC/BS $10,000 ann. deductibles (each), 70/30 in network plan, $1,000 deductible(each) for Rxs. That costs us $895 a month. I've a birthday coming up in Oct. I'm going to ask partner to drop me from policy. We can't afford this anymore. It's about 20% of our average income.

13. Nobody ever said that your health coverage had to be affordable or even good
That's the thing that really burns me about the "reform". Yes, we'll all have access to health insurance. But there's no guarantee that it will be good insurance, or insurance that is affordable.
