providing food here is a site that might interest you. Don't know if it is in your area but I have bought their food boxes in Az and I know they are in Ca.
I bought this before for a viet nam era vet. He liked the food. Quite a bit of food in the boxes.

7. The frozen meals are not a value
You can buy Banquet meals for a $1 a piece, regularly. Other healthy frozen meals go on sale for $2 a package quite routinely too. I didn't look at the other menus, but if a person wants to help someone out with frozen food, I think they can do better by just looking at the sales ads.

The food for a family of four is probably a lot better though.

8. By my standards, that looks expensive - I don't pay that much.

It looks like almost $2 a pound for a lot of processed food. It's extremely easy for me to average a dollar a pound for food (or less) - especially if it's got filler like corn dogs. For $3 a pound, I can get sirloin. I just got 10 pounds of fresh chicken legs for 49 cents a pound, and my husband was asking why I stocked up at that price instead of waiting til a sale when they were 29 or 39 cents a pound.

Edit to add a link to find a local food pantry near you - either if you have a need, or if you'd like to donate: http://pantrynet.org/ZipCalc.asp
