Let's take a look at the parallel universe where Americans associated KKK violence with Christianity
Let's leave our universe for a minute and slide over to visit a neighbor. A universe just like our universe, except for one minor difference. Instead of having a small but vocal minority associate terrorism with all Muslims, a small but vocal minority associated KKK terrorism with all Christians.

Here's an example of that:
After the 1979 Greensboro Massacre, people retaliated against Christians in general; saying that "not all Christians are Klansmen, but all Klansmen are Christians", vandalizing churches, burning Bibles, etc.

Now jump to 2010 in that universe:
What do you think the condition of the Klan would be?
How would civil rights be in that universe?
How about extra judicial violence and political assassinations in that universe?

3. For those of you playing at home ...
The Greensboro massacre occurred on November 3, 1979 in Greensboro, North Carolina, United States. Five protest marchers were shot and killed by members of the Ku Klux Klan and the American Nazi Party. The protest was the culmination of attempts by the Maoist Workers Viewpoint Organization to organize mostly black industrial workers in the area.
