Is this a win / win scenario in november?
If we win, and keep both houses, then we're going to keep on doing what we need to do, the economy will rebound no matter what, and the GOP hate machine will run out of steam.

Plus 98% of the people will get good tax refund in 2011, they will see that GM is again a private company and the deficit go down again.

If we lose, but at least keep the senate (which is more than possible), then the dems will pass important measures in the lame duck session, then America will have 2 years to realize how extreme and idiotic this new flavor of the GOP is, while having no idea, no solution, except revert measures that are not entirely impopular.

If they are dumb enough to revert the Recovery Act, then watch jobless numbers go up, watch cops and firefighters lose their jobs.

If they are dumb enough to revert the HCR, then watch as people are told they will be denied coverage again, watch young adults living with their parents be denied coverage, watch older folks in the "donut hole" be denied coverage.

None of this will fly.

People will have two years of Angle and O'Donnell, and other idiotic Teabaggers spewing their teabag nonsense, asking for social security to be reverted and for the rich to get tax cuts, again.

Then 2012 will come and, again, Obama will get more attention, he will trounce his opponent in the debates, gather hundreds of thousands of people wherever he goes and hammer the message: that his policies were good, that they helped fix the economy and that people will have a choice between the Tea Party and the Dems.

I feel a lot more relaxed these days.

1. Well, we're not going to keep the House
And while we might nominally keep the Senate on the day after the last ballot is counted, we still need to keep some DINO's from bolting to the Rethugs when they're offered chairmanships and other such things, such as the deal that we made with Snarlin' Arlen when he came over to our side.

I do share your optimism about 2012, with the President at the top of the ticket, we'll see his voters come out of hiding, and they will be fed up at the antics of the tea party. Of course, he'll have to survive the "Dump Barack" movement that will emerge after the election, but I have some faith that he'll survive it.

As for the economy getting better, the business control freaks have no intention of letting that happen if the Rethugs can't get the credit for it. If by some miracle, we keep both houses of Congress, they'll be only too happy to sit on their cash for another couple of years when the big prize comes up.

3. The pendulum will swing back
And the media loves controversy.

We need to steal the message back.

4. Let's face it
After the 2008 election, the media was saying "The Republicans are Dead". The tea partiers said, yes, it is, and we can take it over and rebuild it in our image.

After we shed some Blue Dogs and other DINO's, it's time for progressives to do the same, and take back our party from those who vote for bailouts for the rich.

2. The GOP hate machine will never run out of steam...
It is proof that perpetual motion is possible.

The Lame Duck session will be a constant filibuster. The Republicans will have no reason or desire to let anything pass.

If we keep both houses, it will be more obstructionism. That is their too.

6. Actually, it means the Republicans will HAVE to come up with ideas. They can't sit and wait for the
Dems to propose legislation and block it. They will be constitutionally required to propose spending measures.

(Revenue bills MUST originate in the house, according to the constitution.)
