***DUzy Awards for week ending May 18, 2007***

Welcome to the DUzy Awards, honoring tremendous tomfoolery, terrific tantrums and tempestuous tee-hees from this week on DU. Congratulations to this week's winners!

The embarrassingly well-endowed DUzies will be announced every Friday, if I get around to it. Previous awards can be found in my journal.

Note to Mods: Skinner has authorized the DUzy Awards to be posted in GD.

Special thanks this week to bleever, ih8thegop, stellanoir, rosesaylavee, Buzz Clik, merh, Swamp Rat, Moochy, EstimatedProphet and NanceGreggs for their invaluable assistance. Shame about that locked thread! And props to the late Reverend Falwell, who finally did something to make the world a better place.

On a thread by dajoki:

On carrier Cheney said United States must hold firm in Iraq and confront Iran if necessary
"Vice President Dick Cheney used the setting of an aircraft carrier in the Persian Gulf to deliver a stern message to Iran today..."

response #10 by rocknation:

      Mods, please lock this thread
It's a duplicate of the one in which Bush stood on a carrier and said the United States must hold firm in Iraq!

After all, Abu Gonzo is the nation's foremost expert in avoiding recall. "Beef? I don't recall!"

The "I misspoke because I can't hear myself piddle" defense...
Haven't heard that one for a while.

I can't think of anything to write that doesn't make me laugh too hard to type, make me piddle in the chair and leave me deaf.

If "Only Nixon could go to China", then how do we complete "Only Shrub could ______"?

response #1 by Joe Fields:

Only Shrub could fuck up a wet dream....

response #7 by petronius:

I think the difference is that Nixon actually had the fortitude and honesty to
recognize that engaging with Communist China was the right thing to do. There are a lot of positive things that a Republican (even from from the far far right; Jesse Helms comes to mind) with integrity could do, but Shrub is not that guy. There is nothing Shrub can do that could not be done as well or better by a hemorrhoidal marmoset...

response #16 by NoPasaran:

Only Shrub could make us long for Nixon.

Standing 6 feet, 2 inches tall, Romney has jet-black hair, graying naturally at the temples. Women -- who will play a critical role in this coming election -- have a word for him: hot.'

      The Undead join al Qaeda
Dead Taliban Leader Was Training U.S. Recruits
Coalition forces were stunned earlier today when it was discovered that a dead Taliban leader was training recruits from the United States. A Pentagon spokesperson, under conditions of anonymity, had this to say. "Frankly, we're at a loss here. If al Qaeda has the connections to utilize the Zombie community, what's next? We're hoping that rumours of Vampires and Werewolves will prove to be baseless."

Breaking Falwell reported to have been in a meeting when he collapsed
A.P. 5/15/2007 Lynchburg, VA.

Reverand Jerry Falwell, 73, President of Liberty University and Pastor of Thomas Road Baptist Church
was reportedly in a meeting with a Mr. Tinky Winky, of East Staffordshire, U.K. when he was stricken
this morning. Despite past differences Falwell had become close to Mr. Winky over the past few years.
His Thomas Road Baptist Church was reportedly ready to market "boy purses," for young Christian men.

Winky, 39 was escorted out of a back door from Falwell's office by campus police so as to avoid the
media. Winky and Falwell had recently been seen dining together at a "gentleman's club" in Richmond,
VA close to a condo where Mr. Winky lived. The deed on the Condo showed that the "President's
discretionary checking account paid for the $550,000.00 home on the James River.

Winky was unavailable for comment.

Complete with photo of Tinky Winky holding a boy purse...

response #2 by valerief:

It was fun to celebrate his death yesterday. But to go on about it
today is so pre 5/16.

response #22 by H2O Man:

      But you must admit
there is a huge chance that the 2008 presidential election will be decided by millions of Americans who will identify the anti-Falwell threads on DU from 5-15 thru 5-17-07 as the single issue they used in making the choice to vote republican. I think we all need to get crew-cuts, wear two neck ties, and donate to the Moral Majority. It's the only way to save this thing we've all worked so hard for.
