What positive message motivated your vote in the past? What messages will inspire you now and later?

(here are some suggestions from FDL -- any others you'd add?)

“We’ll fight to add the public option to the health care bill.”

“We’re getting out of Afghanistan.”

“We are pulling the remaining 50,000 troops out of Iraq.”

“We’re going to cut the approximately $1T annual defense budget in half and use the remainder to fund US infrastructure projects, including high speed rail.”

“We will roll back the Bush/Cheney executive power grabs.”

“We will repeal DADT.”

“We will fight for marriage equality.”

“We will reform the Senate and eliminate the filibuster.”

“We will make the Fed transparent.”

“We will legalize marijuana.”

3. My daughter.
In 1991/92, I was a single mother, on welfare, making minimum wage as an office temp. My daughter (1 y.o. at the time) is bi-racial and we are not particularly religious. The thought of another term for Poppy Bush terrified the crap out of me since we seemed to be the epitome of everything the Right hates. I went to my local Dem HQ and volunteered to GOTV and phone bank for Clinton/Gore and my local Dems.

And I haven't looked back.

5. Actions speak louder than words..
Edited on Tue Sep-28-10 10:37 AM by Winterblues
We have been given the sound bites and promises.. It is past time for action.....They had a golden opportunity and they threw it in the toilet...They had super majorities in both houses and had the whitehouse and what did they do? A very watered down Health Insurance Reform Bill, Insurance not Health, an even more watered down financial reform bill. We still have troops in Iraq and an escalated venture in Afghanistan. Gitmo is still in business. Capitulation on where prisoners were to be tried and imprisoned. Capitualation on virtually every single issue....What should they say to win our votes? I'm afraid it is too late for words....They had a real honest chance to do good by America and they sold it out...

6. I don't need or want "MESSAGES" OR TALKING POINTS..or any such bullshit..
Edited on Tue Sep-28-10 12:52 PM by flyarm
we need actions! People in this nation are bleeding..they are hurting and bleeding..to hemmorage!

I cry when my fellow Americans Cry!

People in this country have lost their jobs, and are losing their homes in record numbers.

The banks that sit on our tax money are not helping people out..they are sticking it up people's proverbial asses! They act like THUGS..with our money in their pockets!

People are paying the consequences of the crooks..the crooks are paying no consequences! And until there is accountability ..and people get help ..all the messages in the world don't mean a hill of beans!

We have wasted our treasury and the most important part of that treasury is our children who have been sent to wars based on lies and there has been ZERO accountability.

We live each day with one after another lie being exposed and all we hear is we were MISPOKEN TO..when did outright lies become mispeaks?

Our constitution has been all but destroyed with no one being held accountabile and no one reversing this out right law breaking!

I don't want another damn flowery word..

I want truth and honesty and accountability..and if the people we hired can not do their job, they job they sought.. then they need to get the fuck out of the way...I for one will use my vote to remove them!

They work for me..not the other way around..they can stick their pledges they want we the people to adhere to up heir proverbial asses ..they made a pledge to us... when they ran for office and were elected to office.

If they can not full fill their obligation and their oath of office to we the people..they need to leave office...either with my vote or non vote!

I don't want another damn bogus message!

Actions speak louder than words!

7. that's a very good point -- messages don't amount to anything w/o action
there's something that Scientologists do called "handling" that is essentially an empty thwarting of someone's desire for meaningful discussion. they "handle" them -- just give them what they want to hear...enough so they'll comply with what is wanted of them, and move along.

people aren't stupid. they know when they're being handled, and we've seen too much of that in the last year of political wonderment.
