I Know Who Joe Biden was Talking About and It Wasn't Me
Think back to when the news broke that Elizabeth Warren would be appointed as Special Advisor for the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and your reaction.

Then think again about what the Vice President said.

It should be very easy to figure it out from there...

1. He was talkin about me
I whine about my lack of access to affordable medical treatment.
Its not so much that I hate liberals; I am just in a lot of preventable pain.

2. I Don't Think That He Was Talking About You Either
I'm sorry about your situation. I'm currently unemployed myself and trying to figure out what to do about health insurance.

5. I never needed health insurance until I got sick, now I cant use it
I've have full health insurance for about 20 years.. Never really needed it at all.
Now I am sick.
I really need access to affordable medical treatment.
I am in pain that can be prevented by physical therapy and surgery.
I cannot afford physical therapy and surgery, even though I have full health insurance.

Plus, my health insurance costs more; this year the increase is double digits. Double digit increases for the first time in 20 years. The price always rises, but usually between 3 and 6%. Now we have double digit increases.

Pretty much everyone I know is paying more for medical treatment (everyone that has employer provided health insurance). The idea that we should jump for joy over the "medical afford-ability act" (as we pay more!) instead of whine is foreign to me..

Thanks for the kind reply and thoughts.. peace and low stress..

3. I'm sorry to hear about your situation.
I'm sorry I'm in the same situation. Plus, I have "this thing" for equal rights. I'm also opposed to assassinating citizens without a trial. Oh, and continued war gets me all worked up. Guess he's talking about me, too. I'm just another fucking retarded drug using whiner. :hi:

9. I supposed I fit in there..only that I am currently fortunate
that I have medicaid, medicare, and ADAP..I have SSD too, but it does not go far enough. Partner used to have a really good paying job but that went overseas repeatedly. Now we are barely hanging in there. I am currently wondering wtf im going to do the trucks motor burned up (oil pump) now I need a motor and the roof is leaking. I can patch up the roof..as soon as I can get a few hundred together for materials..that will make it last a bit longer but we Need a new roof, as well as a whole bunch of other things too. The house was abandoned when we bought it after it had been variously neglected and abused.

We know we were wire tapped for speaking out against the evil bush regime and the stolen election, we also had our home invaded by feds while we were out and they gave no warrant nothing.
Neighbors said some big black fords with govt plates and about 6 guys in dark suits (do they HAVE to be cliche?) were in our house for a couple of hours, nothing taken but everything rifled.

20. Jesus.
That sounds just awful. My ex and I live together for financial reasons, and we absolutely would have gone under if it wasn't for his father's help. And that help is barely keeping us afloat. I have a serious illness (and no insurance), and my teeth are getting worse by the day (no dental insurance either). Ex-hubby hasn't had a raise in two years - but we still consider him lucky to have a job. Several people have been laid off where he works, and the rest have to take off one day a month without pay (mandatory). And like you, our car needed a new motor less than a year after we purchased it. Bastids!

If I could help you, I certainly would. Do you by any chance have a relative or a good friend who could give you some short-term help? You probably have already thought of this, but I know some people are quite reluctant to go that route. It IS terribly embarrassing, but like I said, we would have already sunk if we hadn't asked. Good luck, my friend. I hope things turn around for you. I really do.

7. You whine about a lot of things.
Your lack of health care wasn't the whine that Biden was talking about.

15. just keep on keepin on..
I try to deal with the pain as best I can..
So far, not so bad..

I really don't whine about the drug war, the global war on terror, gay rights, the dlc.. But I guess I do whine about health insurance reform - because I am in pain and unable to afford 'the cure'. It is hard to view this as a feather in our cap when the daily pain is such a black eye (to use the terms outlined in CATCH 22)..

6. I'm not sure Biden does
Surely he didn't' expect everyone to agree with him? And some might actually say something about it. Surely he wasn't that naive.

8. Yes, that was a real moment.
When people had wanted her and then she was appointed...and it wasn't good enough.

K&R but it doesn't show.

14. An appointment is NOTHING. It remains to be seen if she will be allowed
to run it correctly, or if she will be answerable to Geitner et al.

Personally, I think she was appointed as a sop to the left, and that come six months from now, after the election you know, we will see she has no power. I hope not, but I have seen nothing to indicate otherwise.

Summers has already announced that he's leaving.

So who will you blame then?

19. I won't blame anybody if she is allowed to do what she was appointed to do.
The proof is in the pudding.

In the civil war, the North's greatest general was appointed to take on the Army of Northern Virginia. McClellan was respected, forceful, articulate, well schooled in military strategy. However, simply appointing him did not win the war. He wound up doing a really piss-poor job. Turns out he was great at building an army, but sucked at using it.

Warren's appointment has the potential to do a lot of good. But if Geitner does not allow her to be effective, or he leaves and another Wall Street hero is put in his place who she is subordinate to, will she be able to do the job?

Please notice, I'm not saying she's a failure. SHE HASN'T STARTED THE JOB YET. How could you judge her to be either a success or a failure? What I DO know is that the team above and around her is every bit as pro-Wall Street as anyone Bush had (and more than a couple of the names are the same).

Maybe the economic imperialists are on their way out - maybe Obama has seen how their pro-Republican biases are keeping us from making serious progress. Or maybe he's just shuffling the deck, and will continue to play with the same old cards. If the marked cards are still there, there's no cause to celebrate.

11. I think you've touched a nerve. Biden wasn't as careful as he should have been,
Edited on Tue Sep-28-10 01:40 PM by blondeatlast
but he has a point. there was lots of hand-wringing right here when Warren was given the position and DU's reaction was confusing, to say the least.

k/r for what it's worth.

17. Because they invented a new position
The "hand wringing" was because she didn't get appointed to the position alot of people wanted her to have. Now, there were alot of reasons for that. But this administration has lost alot of trust over the two years and so there was some understandable skepticism. Later, comments from her and others clarified a bit what was going on. It still causes people to be cautious, but they are willing to some extent to see how it pans out. But between secret negotiations with Big Pharma, Rick Warren, and what they did to the single payer crowd, there are folks that are a bit "jumpy" and their first reaction is going to be suspicion when ever there is a variation from the norm.

13. He wasn't talking about me, either. Go, Joe!
People were bitchin' about Elizabeth Warren not being appointed or involved. Now look. She's involved. Summers is out. Orzag is out. Rahm may be out as early as this week. And people are STILL bitchin'!!

Yeah, I know what Biden is talking about. He was spot on, too!
