The vigor is there. It's what we need. He also gives the perspective that we all forget at times.

Thank you, President Obama. Let's take this thing forward!

Please.

(On edit: Please don't unrec just because you don't like me. Give the president his due, and listen, before giving the thread the thumbs down. Thanks.)

1. Was this just a while ago? I was in the car and heard Mike Malloy say that
Obama was giving a speech but didn't know if the show was live as it was about midnight back East.

4. I wish our Democrats would say that every day and twice on Sundays.
Their ideas don't work. We tried it and it didn't work.

Over and over and over again.

7. You mean like an actual message?
Be still my beating heart...that might just actually, you know...work or something. (Which means that it must be avoided at all costs because to do so would display actual comportment and the simultaneous ability to counter attack the Re-thug attack lines.)

I wish like hell that it were true, but a lifetime of watching the Dems perfect the role of sand-kicked on and bullied while never, ever being the actual sand kicker make me reticent to hope!

14. What if they're saying it, and we just don't get to hear it? M$M?
Let's face it, with the possible exception of Alan Grayson & maybe Anthony Weiner, we just don't have the colorful "characters" that are so prevalent on the right. Just being on the right side of an issue is not enough to get media attention. Democrats don't do "stunts". Republicans are famous for "stunts", and that may be the best media strategy. I don't know.

Randi Rhodes always says, "if you don't see it on the teevee, it never happened"; and sadly she's right. The media determines what's "news". And the media just ain't into Democrats right now. Bernie Sanders says that Dems need our own version of Fox News, and I'm inclined to agree.

10. This was a badass speech
Obama proves once again that he is the greatest public speaker of our time. I have a lot of criticisms of Obama, but I gotta say, when I was watching that speech those criticisms were about the farthest thing from my mind. Its twisted how likable the guy is, he makes it difficult to disagree with because everything he says sounds so damn good.

I know a million people have said it a million different times, but if Obama took this attitude with him into the white house and actually governed with this sense of passion and strength, the republicans wouldn't even matter anymore, no one would even pay them any attention and the idea that they could do good in this election would be a pipe-dream.

For the love of god Obama, this is what people want to hear from you, this is what we voted for.

11. Exactly!
If Obama had taken on the GOPers monthly in a US version of "The Prime Minister's Questions" this election would be about how big the Democratic majority would grow.

15. Great Speech..
I guess midterms are all about voter turnout on your side, so some preaching to the choir is a helpful thing.

But, it would be great if this could reach a wider audience. It is an exceptional articulation of what our choices are in November. Maybe I'll incite some venom from all my red state co-workers and friends by posting a link on facebook.

Anyone know of a dowloadable video of it?

16. While I applaud his speach...
Edited on Fri Oct-01-10 09:30 AM by Javaman
Why wasn't he and others doing this type of thing months ago? Instead of a month before the elections?

It's that kind of campaigning that doesn't sit with me very well.

What happens after the November elections? Do they pack up this type of reach out, until they need the younger generation again next time?

While I applaud Obama's push for the tuition overhaul, he and the other Dems should have been out trumpeting that move from shore to shore, but all we got was a speech then nothing until now.

This is the main issue I have with the dems right now. While Obama maybe doing some good things and some other good things behind the scenes, they don't promote these same achievements very well and as a result allow the repukes to control the message.

Then Obama and the Dem congress wonder why a huge percentage of Dem voters aren't engaged this time around.

It continues to amaze me. Even though the average Dem is far more informed then the average repuke, there still needs promotion and reaffirmation of what has been done and what is being done.

The average voter just doesn't have the where for all to research. The message need to be in their face often and daily.

What we get instead is this: the last minute rush to remind everyone what he has done. Which, I might add, regardless of Obama's achievements, comes off as disingenuous and campaigning.

That's my long winded point.

17. Yup, he's good at speeches. I remember "I will sign no HCR bill without the Public Option."

That was one of my favorites.

Ditto for repealing DADT and passing the Employee Free Choice Act (card check unionizing).
