Michigan AG Cox suspends Assistant AG Shirvell
Edited on Fri Oct-01-10 03:37 AM by kevinbgoode
Well, it took the Attorney General long enough to figure things out. . .his excuse? He hadn't read all of the entries on his gay-stalking assistant attorney's blog. He hasn't said what has changed his mind, but for now, Shirvell is suspended. From the Detroit News:

Attorney General Mike Cox changed his stance Thursday, suspending Andrew Shirvell after the assistant attorney general attracted national attention for a controversial blog that ridicules and denounces a University of Michigan student leader for his gay advocacy, religious beliefs and character.

(snip)

Cox said he hadn't earlier read all of Shirvell's blog, "Chris Armstrong Watch," that dogs Armstrong, the 21-year-old, openly gay president of U-M's student government and accuses him of "anti-Christian behavior," "mocking God," promoting homosexuality and trying "to recruit your sons and daughters" into the gay lifestyle.

"I'm at fault here," Cox said. "I've been saying for weeks that (Shirvell's) been acting like a bully, that his behavior is immature, but it's after-hours and protected by the First Amendment."

The newspaper also reported that Cox took a potshot at Governor Jennifer Granholm. . .but the story also reiterates a report we saw on an earlier DU thread that confirmed Shirvell has been banned from the University of Michigan campus.

1. Not good enough.
Suspension is not termination, or preferably prosecution.

5. Touchdown, they have to go through a legally unchallengeable process

It's pretty clear the creep is going to be let go. What took so long was gathering and ascertaining enough evidence to get rid of Shirvell cleanly. The man has mental issues. In fact they may need to compel him to get counselling, which they can't do if they fire him. There may be a 'danger factor' they don't want to exacerbate. The first I heard of this I was reminded of Dan White.

7. Usually the write up includes "Pending an investigation"
This one doesn't, which makes me suspicious. I guess with state governments those procedures have to be followed. The man is a danger, we agree.

3. It's a step in the right direction.
But it took too long.

6. We need to get rid of Mike Cox
He is a two sided repuklian just like most all of them are... This is the right move and should be followed by the guys firing but we also need to get rid of the repuklian Attorney General now.

9. I'm thinking Cox owes some "people."
So, he has to check his decisions.

This scenario cannot be proven after a judge denied information release for a lawsuit.

It goes back to the killing of a stripper at a mayor Kilpatrick party. Cox says the party didn't happen and won't investigate. Witness says Cox was there, at the party! Then, a judge denies further release of information for the lawsuits. Next, the case gets thrown out for lack of information. This would put Cox off the hook, if there would be no testimony from others that he was there and none from himself either, nor a plea of the fifth from himself a public official.

If so, he's walking a more careful line. He's been known to donate money to judge elections in amounts close to what he was making in a year at the time.

Where'd he get that money?
