Poll question: Do you believe the Republicans will invade Iran if they win the 2012 Presidential election?

By "Republicans will invade Iran," I mean the Republicans will send the US armed forces to Iran for the purpose of taking lives, and/or drop bombs on Iran.

4. Other. They will bomb the fuck out of it, perhaps with nukes.
I think they know America will not tolerate another occupation.

They will sell it as "liberating" the Iranian people, and say that a Jeffersonian Democracy will arise spontaneously to fill the power-vacuum.

They'll target leadership, government, command/control, water, power, sewage, and all aspects of infrastructure.

You know-- to Win their Hearts and Minds.

7. The USA military is in big trouble
I don't think they can do it, because the US military is in big trouble. They are in the quagmire in Iraq, created by Bush, but which Obama maintains because he is afraid of the Military Industrial Complex. The situationn in Afghanistan is very weak, they are surrounded by hostile populations, and they can see their supplies cut, thus many US soldiers could be captured by the Taliban.

Iran is a very large country and they will have the population support if the imperial forces from USA attack. Therefore, the USA will suffer many losses, and the USA population will begin large demonstrations. Americans, after all, love war because they think it costs very little to kill others. But Americans are learning the small dogs they like to kick do bite.

8. If they are seen as being close to developing nuclear weapons, it won't matter who.
The President at that time would attack.

12. VERY unlikely that we will invade
While we may end up launching air strikes or missiles strikes against specific targets (regardless of who is President) an invasion is extremely unlikely.*

* My prediction is based on current circumstances and the likelihood of no major changes in the current status. If Iran invades a neighboring country or uses a nuclear weapon against another country, then things become extremely unpredictable.

14. Of course, Iran has not invaded any of its neighbors since the 1700s.
So them initiating an attack, no matter their bellicose language, is highly unlikely.

13. I sure-fuck hope not! Iran is even better set up for a patriotic, anti-Imperialist
resistance than Iraq.

Iraq is mostly wide open desert. Iran is mountainous. Lots of places to hide. And it's three times the size of Iraq. No way in Hell any invasion and occupation force could hold it.

I'd hate to think of myself rooting for Iran, but that's how it would shake out. I have friends in Iran. Apolitical, non-ideological friends that anyone would like and admire right off the bat. An invasion would be first-degree mass murder on our part, just like the shocking and awful 'Shock and Awe'.

21. Because...
First, it plays into the "OMG! Republicans are gonna win! We're DOOOOOOOOOMED!" meme. Second, and the real waste of time part, is that OF COURSE the Republicans would invade Iran if they were in power again. They'd invade Sweden if they thought they could make a buck by kidnapping the Swedish women's volleyball team. But the Congress, even if controlled by Republicans, can't invade Iran without the President backing it, so it's really a moot point. It's just more fear-mongering. That's not needed now -- unity, focus, and GETTING OUT TO VOTE are the messages we should be paying attention to. Not hypotheticals which we all know the answer to already.

18. BUT they also need the approval of congress and the president.
They will be taking their slop jars to congress cause they wouldn't make it to the bathroom because they want to INVADE Iran. I mean after all Bush did something this country of ours had never done it is's whole history. Invaded a neutral country. Why wouldn't they try to do it again.
