Did a single trade spark the "Flash Crash" of May 6 2010?

NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- A single trade by Waddell & Reed Financial (WDR_) helped spark the "flash crash" of May 6, Reuters reports, citing a source familiar with the regulators' report.

Waddell, which sold a large order of e-mini futures contracts during the plunge, won't be named in the report, according to the source, Reuters reports. But the report will describe Waddell's trade as a single trade by an entity, the source said.

The report from the Securities and Exchange Commission and CFTC was expected to be released before October, Reuters notes. The report must still win approval from the majority of the 10 SEC and CFTC commissioners. It isn't clear whether all commissioners have had a chance to review the report.

The flash crash of May 6 saw the Dow Jones Industrial Average lose nearly 1,000 points before recovering to close down about 350 points.
