Duct tape has a lot of uses, but this one is just horrific.

A young mother and her boyfriend were jailed after shocking photos surfaced of the mom's toddler taped to the wall.

Jayla Hamm, 18, held her 22-month-old son against a wall while her boyfriend, Corde Honea, 19, taped his wrists, legs and boy with neon green duct tape in January.

Police said the Beatrice, Neb., couple showed off the photos of the boy, dressed in a red onesie and white socks, to their friends.

In one photo, the small child's arms are placed behind his back. In another, the boy is seen trying to reach for his sippy cup that had been taped to the wall — just out of his reach.

Possibly the Nebraska paper edited their article, but I've read some others about this case in the same paper and all they mention is "possession of drug paraphernalia", type unspecified. Also, the police found things the boyfriend had stolen when they searched the house. He's been sentenced for the abuse and the burglary, but not for drug charges.

The sensational headline is a great distraction from the fact that a pot habit is not the problem when it comes to this child and all other abused kids.

We do not fund or teach classes on parenting skills adequately. There is all sorts of sickness going on in all sorts of households and has been going on for generations. Many parents were not ever shown parenting skills and/or they lack the mental acumen to do the right thing.

Pot would not make a person become a bad parent. A lack of community support and lack of education combined with abuse in a person's own childhood often tragically results in abuse.
