Meg Whitman may have employed a second undocumented employee
Edited on Sat Oct-02-10 09:08 AM by Liberal_in_LA

Whitman's latest statements come just two days after the unfolding of a political drama that has threatened to derail her two-year campaign for governor - financed with $119 million of her own money - and has sent her team of political operatives into full damage-control mode.

In her Thursday news conference, Whitman - while calling for employers to be "held accountable" for hiring undocumented immigrants - admitted she also hired a friend of Diaz's during the housekeeper's maternity leave. Asked if she checked the woman's immigration papers, Whitman said, "I don't remember whether we did or not."

14. Lighten up. It's funny.
I'm going through a very tough time in my life now and have realized that laughing helps and nitpicking is a sorry waste of time.

25. What you said
Sorry about your tough time. I was doing okay--until Wednesday, when my litle brother collapsed and died while out biking.

I've dealt with a lot of loss and grief in my life, and I'm hanging in there; I'll be OK. Like you, I value the levity--that's one of the things that's very helpful to me. And some things are WORTH posting more than once.

:hi:

26. There's true irony in your choice of parting gifts
Years ago, the very rich heir to Rice-A-Roni (Golden Grain Macaroni) tried to dodge California taxes by claiming his Tahoe vacation ski house as his residence. The house was conveniently parked on the Nevada side of the lake. He lost the very costly lawsuit and ultimately sold his interest in the company.

3. This story just gets better and
better! Her meanness toward a woman who worked for her for nine years is simply astounding. She wouldn't pay her gas mileage when she ran errands for the family. Un-f*cking-believable.

I'm surprised no one has thrown rotten eggs at her.

I want to see Meg cry....poor little filthy rich woman.

7. I'm coming a little late to the party, so
isn't another smoking gun here the fact that she fired her longtime housekeeper pretty much the moment she decided to run for governor? Has she ever explained the firing? Seems to me it would indicate that she knew exactly what was what.

10. It is if you're working 40+ hours a week
and only getting paid for 15.

Works out to $8.62 an hour.

And who was she gonna bitch to about it? She was illegal, ya know.

12. She was employed by them for how long?
Edited on Sat Oct-02-10 11:14 AM by B2G
7 years or so? And she was represented by an agency? I find it hard to believe that was the case for that length of time. This whole this doesn't add up to me. And Allred's involvement really makes this seem shady to me. Sorry, but that's the way I see it.

13. You know what?
If it was shady then good for whoever is behind it. It means at least some Dems have finally learned how to deal with these bastards.

They have Whitman completely on the defensive. It's bad when a political candidate is offering to take a polygraph test a month before the election. She wasn't looking too good before this happened and it's hard to see how she will recover from it.

I hope other Democratic candidates start doing the same thing to their opponents.

21. I think this attitude is sort of common in California
I have a friend who's a staunch liberal, who has no qualms about looking for 'a Mexican' (her words) to work on her yard or house for a lower rate. She doesn't care about legal status. She's from California and I get the impression that it's a common way of doing things there. It seems like a weird disconnect to me. A sort of cognitive dissonance. By disconnect, I mean deliberately seeking to take advantage of someone's iffy immigration status to pay them lower wages.

22. And Whitman's house grew from 3700 Sq Ft to 15000...
Those Mexican housekeepers are astonishing! While the kids are away at school, not only might they fold the laundry wash the windows, and scrub the grout, they might build you an entire master bedroom suite with his and hers bathrooms, walk in closets, and a spa-fitness room, working just fifteen hours a week, and not a minute longer.
