Something's up at the One Nation rally
Tons of cops. Sidewalks blocked - they have been open all day. Seven guys -security- up on top of Memorial. There has been only one since 9 am.

There's also a ton of people here. It's literally jam packed.

6. I'm watching on C-SPAN.
Edited on Sat Oct-02-10 12:59 PM by TexasObserver
I'm watching the speakers. Haven't watched any news coverage. Tried that, but the coverage was so very limited.

MSNBC says they have some segments on it coming up, but I'd have to sit through Alex Twit. She's insufferable.

Not as bad as Mika, but bad.

11. I like to watch it on my TV, so that limits it to CSPAN and the cable news channels.

8. A lot of us switched from MSNBC to C-Span...
...because C-Span is staying on the speeches.

There's an *official* comment thread on the event.

7. Thanks for the report.
It's not a surprise that there would far more security at a progressive rally, than at an armed Tea-bagger rally. Those hippies are so threatening without their guns! :eyes:

10. I'm guess there was a lot of security at the tea bag rally.

I was in Grant Park in Chicago on election night. Security was very intense. We didn't mind. :)

17. Actually, the Tea-bag party members have a lot of insecurity -
which actually made them easier to herd about and control. They were obviously upset about the amount of non-white people speaking at the Beck event, but did they storm the stage, boo, or become obnoxious? No. They sat passively in place waiting for someone to tell them what to do with their anger.
Dam'Dirty Hippies are far more unpredictable and uncontrollable than a well-ordered tea-bagger.
Why, we might have anything from a puppet show to a dance party to a riot break out un-announced in the middle of the mall when we get bored or upset.
Or we might just wander off.

Haele

25. Security is normal in DC. They are probably trying to keep the protesters safe from domestic terror.
If you see undercover cops trying to start fights, that is a different matter. However, I can not imagine DC police doing that.
