Oppose S.3804!
"Stop the Internet Blacklist!

Just the other day, President Obama urged other countries to stop censoring the Internet. But now the United States Congress is trying to censor the Internet here at home. A new bill being debated this week would have the Attorney General create an Internet blacklist of sites that US Internet providers would be required to block."

1. I think it was stopped in committee and won't be advancing during this session
because most Congresspersons are campaigning for re-election at this point.

But still, it MIGHT be debated in the lame duck session or could be revived in 2011.

Despite this, it MUST be stopped due to the invasive powers it'll grant.

5. K&R. DUers, especially, should be concerned about potential attacks on the Internet from any source.

8. Its the Democrats who are responsible for this turd...

http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/z?c111:S.3804:

< bill >

IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES

September 20, 2010

Mr. LEAHY (for himself, Mr. HATCH, Ms. KLOBUCHAR, Mr. WHITEHOUSE, Mr. SCHUMER, Mr. KOHL, Mr. SPECTER, Mr. DURBIN, Mr. BAYH, Mr. VOINOVICH, and Mrs. FEINSTEIN) introduced the following bill; which was read twice and referred to the Committee on the Judiciary

< / bill >

Leahy, Klobuchar, Whitehouse, Schumer, Kohl, Specter, Durbin, Bayh, Voinovich, and Feinstien.

Most of those names can be traced back to the DLC or the NDC. With friends like this, who needs enemies?

It seems like this is mainly meant for torrent / filesharing sites. But still... the gov't should not be restricting what sites are available to internet users. They should go after those who are producing these copyright infringed materials and putting the sites on the web, rather than the web users who access these sites.
