Social Security, Defense, and Medicare are necessary parts of government but TAXES are not ?
Edited on Sun Oct-03-10 11:33 AM by kentuck
But raising taxes to pay for these programs is not a necessary part of government? That seems to be what Rand Paul and most Tea Party Republicans believe.

On the Chris Wallace show on FOX this morning, Paul was asked, "If you're so concerned about the national debt, how are you going to pay for a $4-trillion loss of revenue from the tax cuts?"

Paul then responded,"I think first of all, you look at whose money it is. It's the people's money, who earn the money, and we give up some to pay taxes. So I'm not seeing that as a cost to government. But I will immediately introduce bills to reduce spending. I think we should offset it. So I'm not opposed to introducing bills to reduce spending."

Wallace says, "There's no way you're going to get $4 trillion by spending cuts."

Then Paul gives the canned Republican response, the same thing that George W Bush said when he thought it was bad that we had a surplus, "We're going to introduce legislation that will reduce spending. I'm going to introduce legislation that will balance the budget. We will have a balanced budget amendment introduced if I'm elected. We will also have a balanced budget that will be introduced if I'm elected."

Yeah, right!

Taxes are not a part of government. They want government but they don't want to pay for it. Taxes should be exempt. They will have a balanced budget amendment but they will not have a balanced budget. They would prefer people with needs suffer rather than raise taxes on the wealthy. That is their vision for America.

4. Same rationalization they use with abortion
"If it's illegal - it doesn't happen anymore - because it's illegal" vs. "If I say we are going to pass legislation balancing the budget - it's balanced because we passed a law saying it is"

It's the BECAUSE I SAID SO factor...close their eyes to reality ..

6. If we examine the USAmerican example
The infrastructure is "paid for" by the working classes, directly through heavily regressive taxes and indirectly by exploitation of their labor.

And that's exactly how they like it...

Face it, folks. There's always been a class war on and we're still losing!

8. a lot of people here are unionized and well-paid for their improvement of
said infrastructure. I personally think folks at the upper end should continue to pay higher taxes. I agree that the poor are heavily over-taxed in a variety of ways, with limited chances to improve their situation.
