It’s just four weeks (and two days) until the midterm elections. But that’s a lifetime (or two) in politics, and it’s way too early for Speaker Nancy Pelosi or Minority Leader John Boehner to be staking claim to the fanciest digs in the US House of Representatives.

* * *

The latest NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll shows the GOP edge in a generic poll asking which party should control Congress dropping from nine percentage points last month to just three points today. Gallup shows the generic poll essentially even, as does the POLITICO/George Washington University Battleground Poll.

Meanwhile, there’s this:

“CNN has learned that Tom Donohue, the powerful president of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce who has vowed to spend more than $75 million on key House and Senate races, has privately told colleagues in recent weeks he believes Democrats will just barely hold on to the House majority,” writes CNN’s Ed Henry.

Way to fight fellow Democrats! Ignore the Rand Paul type operatives on liberal boards urging you to stay home. Ignore the 24/7 bombardment by corporate or billionaire funded campaigns trying to get you to vote Republican or to stay home. Ignore the corporate media narrative that Republican control of Congress is a slam dunk, and that it heralds a return to Bush-o-nomics and the policies of tax cuts to the very rich, and cuts in benefits to the very poor!

We are what stands between sanity and a world where folks like Sharron Angle, Rand Paul and Christine O' Donnell are legitimate voices in the Senate, a world where Jim DeMint suddenly looks like a moderate relative to his crazier breatheren.

1. RE: Tom Donohue

Keep in mind that Donohoe is most likely saying that to fire up his fellow USCOC members into giving more money.

That said, let's hope he's right!

3. This was a media construct from the start ...
The RW controlled media promoted the meme during the Tea Party nonsense, to create a bandwagon effect ....

It was never going to be, but they did get a bump ....

Hopefully, the serious people are now taking note ...

5. You're right. The media will have its horse race no matter what they have to make up.
They can commission "polls" designed to produce the desired results, give talking heads the proper "too close to call" script, etc. They do this every election cycle because it increases ratings and allows them to charge more for advertising -- especially political advertising.

And this propagandizing helps pave the way, via "setting expectations," for Rove or his ilk to steal an election result here or there (caging, vote flipping, etc.) Then the media also wins their much-desired "more business friendly" congress (less regulation, more consolidation, easier-to-purchase lawmakers.)

6. Absolutely ....
Right on the mark .... I never buy into that kind of nonsense .... but there is an element of truth to it: Democrats are losing the propaganda battle ... They dont seem to be able to create an acceptable narrative in the public sphere that gives anyone a reason to vote for them .... Even though I always do vote for them .... I wish they had someone who can carry the banner, and share it with the "little people" ....

Even though the Dems stumble blindly toward the finish line, they will probably win the race ...

9. That Is Part Of The Meme -That Democrats Are Conducting A Poor PR Campaign...
...and this is the reason why Republicans have a massive advantage in terms of Fox News appearances, and donations from corporations and billionaires.

This is false.

The reason why corporate American is supporting Republicans is not because Republicans have a clever PR strategy. Instead, corporate American is funnelling hundreds of millions of dollars into the 2010 campaign.
