GOP spending $2 million in Calif. Senate race
By KEVIN FREKING (AP) – 2 hours ago

WASHINGTON — Republicans moved up a $2 million investment in California's U.S. Senate race after recent polls showed Democratic Sen. Barbara Boxer opening up a lead over GOP rival Carly Fiorina.

The money from the National Republican Senatorial Committee is going to a statewide television ad campaign that tries to link excessive government spending to economic woes in California. The ad plays to voter sentiment about many incumbents and notes that Boxer has held federal office for 28 years.

"We can change this, but only if we change the people we send to Washington," the ad states.

Fiorina is the former CEO of Hewlett-Packard. Her campaign is also spending an undisclosed amount on the same ad campaign. In the primary, Fiorina spent $5.5 million of her own money on the race.

The GOP committee had previously disclosed that it was reserving air time in California for the final week of the campaign. The announcement Monday is a change of tactics that reflects the need to keep the race close going into its final weeks.

The move also assures California Republicans that the national GOP remains invested in the race — something that has not happened in recent Senate races in California.

A Field Poll showed Boxer with a 47 percent to 41 percent lead over Fiorina.

1. Fight Fiorina with miniprotests
Show Californians the hypocrisy of Carly Fiorina with miniprotests in your area. Use these three sign inscriptions for your main signs:

GOP = FFC: Freedom From Compassion
Carly Fiorina Outsourced 30,000 Jobs at HP
Fiorina's Paycheck: $108 Million Fueled by the Extra Profits. Vote for Boxer

Find out more about miniprotesting at http://miniprotests.com.

Each miniprotest is essentially a "protest string" of 12 people, split into three groups of four, positioned on three consecutive street corners along a one-way street in the outbound commute. In each group there is a main 30"x40" sign held at waist level by the central miniprotester while the other three folks hold traditional overhead signs. The three main signs make a running message, such as the one above. And if you have 60 activists ready to hit the streets, then you can have five miniprotests spread around town, all with the same messages, or each one different. Miniprotesting gives progressives the most efficient use of their numbers, more concise messaging, and fast responses to GOP lies, hypocrisy, and the corporate motivations behind their words. And here's another batch of inscriptions on that theme:

GOP "Pledge to America" Written by Pfizer, AIG Lobbyist
GOP Wants to Repeal Obama Healthcare, Rebrand the Most Popular Parts as Their Own
How Gullible do Republicans Think We Are?

2. Money won't help cover up Fiorina's lies.
Let's make them spend it here, so they won't have it for races elsewhere.

4. Throwing good money after bad
The price tag for the Great California Ass-Kickings of 2010 appears as if it will be well north of $150 million.
