..... interpersonal antipathy. People really do, viscerally, dislike other people. Even people they agree with. "Debating" issues is the closest they can come, in a socially acceptable way, to actually doing what they really want to do.

1. Not true, I saw hundreds of people ever day at the grocery store.

And I saw thousands in bars across the country, most people are more nice then mean, and want to get along with

Note I also debate, because some things need to be corrected, and going to find a way to do that, although while debating I try to be nice also.

5. Diplomacy is warfare by other means. Politics is just politics.
And I have no idea what he's referencing.

3. I Rec'd, but I don't agree completely.
I think there are many nice people out there, and others are bad. I don't dislike other people. :)

7. I think we have so many people slammed together on this planet
clawing and scraping to survive that get sick of each other and that battle. I know I feel that way sometimes. Tired of having to put up with so much crap just to survive, and I'm not asking for wealth or its trappings. And the battle comes with the knowledge that, in this nation where social Darwinism is enshrined in its financial system, you are not even permitted to really legally be destitute without it being a crime.

8. I think people who genuinely like themselves don't dislike other people.
Hatred of others is rooted ultimately in ignorance of one's own self.

It's like there are two seeds -- love and hate -- in everyone; and the choices we make influence what is dominant in our lives.

Wanting to debate in order prove others wrong -- without fully understanding how the other thinks, why they believe what they do -- is just an ego trip. A real debate should be educational for everyone involved, not a contest.
